Covid Coping Tip #2 If you're feeling stressed or frustrated or even impatient with the kids, stop everything! Play your favorite song from a time in your life ...when you were happy and carefree. Pick a song you used to love to dance to. Play it loud and dance! Physical activity encourages the brain to produce endorphins. Endorphins are polypeptides made by the pituitary gland and central nervous system. Endorphins primarily help us deal with stress and reduce feelings of pain. Producing Endorphins also encourages the production of Dopamine. Dopamine makes us feel happy and motivated. Listening to a favorite song from a time in our lives when we felt happy enables us to tap into that emotional state.
Quite often when we feel stuck, when no matter how much we resolve to we can't seem to be able to do the things we dream of doing, when nothing seems to go righ...t, the root cause is our thoughts, our inner dialogue. It's one thing to acknowledge that we say a lot of critical stuff to ourselves but another to silence that inner critic. I've compiled a list of books that I've read over the years that are fantastic at not only shutting up that inner critic but helping replace it with an empowering inner cheerleader. If you aren't a reader then I highly recommend signing up for an Audible account. I think it's about $15 a month and you get a free book credit. If you don't like the book they return your credit no questions asked. You can listen to your book in your car, while puttering around the house, anywhere, anytime! Anyway, here are my favorite books to help silence your inner critic: ***Rejection Reset by Scott Allan*** "This book presents a set of easy-to-use, actionable steps that you can put into use right away. Through the process, you will learn to identify triggers, understand self-defeating thoughts, feelings and behaviors and choose more positive actions." ***What to Say When you Talk To Yourself by Shad Helmstetter*** "In this classic book on self-talk, you will learn how to recognize and replace negative mental programming with positive and healthy mental scripts. Using proven strategies and skills, you will learn how to overcome negativity and become your own best support." ***The Power of Neuroplasticity by Shad Helmstetter*** (one of my favorites) "Dr. Helmstetter shows how to use the latest research from the field of neuroscience to wire your brain to change attitudes, overcome negativity, improve health and fitness, reach personal goals, increase mental sharpness and clarity, improve usable IQ, super-charge your thinking and reshape your life, all with neuroscience on your side." ***Your Erroneous Zones by Wayne Dyer*** "Step-by-Step Advice for Escaping the Trap of Negative Thinking and Taking Control of Your Life" I think this is Wayne's first book? It's a little more soulful than the others I mentioned and a really easy, great read. ***Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One by Joe Dispenza*** (my all time favorite) "Not only will you be given the necessary knowledge to change any aspect of yourself, but you will be taught the step-by-step tools to apply what you learn in order to make measurable changes in any area of your life. Dr. Joe demystifies ancient understandings and bridges the gap between science and spirituality." If you've already read any of these I'd LOVE to hear your thoughts!
