Today’s #FrostyFriend, the Downy Woodpecker has impressive abilities to survive our harsh winters. Did you know Downy Woodpeckers join mixed flocks of birds in the winter, such as brown creepers and red-breasted nuthatches? This helps them avoid predators and take advantage of available food sources. #Saskatchewan #Winter #Wildlife #Birds

Today’s #FrostyFriend, the Snowshoe Hare has impressive abilities to survive our harsh winters. Did you know snowshoe hare turn from grey-brown in summer to white in winter? This allows them to protect themselves from predators by blending in with their surroundings. Their large and wide snowshoes their hind feet help them walk on snow and are where they get their name from. #Saskatchewan #Winter #Wildlife
