Dry skin? Did you know this is often an omega 3 fatty acid deficiency? Our skin is made off over 30 trillion cells; made up of thin phospholipid membrane. Essential fatty acids Keep the membrane soft and permeable, moving in nutrients and water and moving out toxins. You can add lotion but this is like blotting up a water leak not fixing it. Omega 3 are the Number one anti aging supplement but be sure to talk to a health professional about good quality oils and remember it takes time to build cellular reserves.

Did you know rhubarb has slight laxative effects. A recent report describes the successful treatment of intestinal dysmotility with rhubarb as a laxative in six critically ill patients. (Effects of Rhubarb on Intestinal Dysmotility in Critically Ill Patients. Internal medicine)

Chronic fatigue, cold hands and feet, poor concentration, hair loss or lack of hair growth, exercise intolerance?. If you have hypothyroidism you may also have an iron deficiency as these two often go hand in hand. When is the last time you had your levels checked?

Some days you just need cotton candy and Ferris wheels. . . . Spring is an easy time to get overwhelmed. Dirty windows, garden veggies, spring clean, salted carpet cars, over weeded gardens, patchy grass and more. It can be exhausting and exciting all at the same time. It’s important to take some time to to yourself enjoy what’s around you and those that make you smile too.

Did you know that neglecting your Social well being increases bio markers that are associated with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Studies have proven this. Not to mention affect mental health, Physical health, and feelings of security and belonging. Social isolation is a downward spiral and it sucks. I need everyone to take a short pause in their day.... stop saying well look at the bright side and take one second to shout this sucks. Ahhhh! I’m with you and can’t wait to see my parents, family, friends and visit my favourite restaurant.

Every year out fam goes out to cut down a tree. Every year it’s mixed with chaos, craziness, confusion and laughter. But we finally pick our tree and always reminisce about our adventure and memories while decorating. These are some of my best childhood memories, and love passing them forward. May your family embrace the oddness of 2020. It’s been an interesting year with twists and turns in so many directions. May simple pleasures bring you comfort and joy.

Though so many of us have turned to online stores and services, I still find so much value in in person appointments. . . For example, the other day I was able feel a swollen, engaged thyroid that would have otherwise gone unnoticed virtually. This changed our path of assessment. . Or our in house bio impedance testing for body composition assessing fat, muscle, water, hydration and cell health when people are struggling with weight concerns. .... . The power of a basic physical exam still has its place. The power of human touch is invaluable. See more

Little people, growing brains. The omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are critical for normal brain function and development through all stages of life. IN FACT, DHA has an important role in developing baby’s brains in where studies have correlated pregnant women taking fish oil with higher iq scores for their children. Interesting! Older adults with low DHA in the blood has been associated with smaller brain size and accelerated brain aging. Hmmm interesting. . . . Food sources are salmon, anchovies, sardines and other forms of fish. Nuts, flax, hemp and chia are sources of ALA that most can convert into EPA and DHA. If your not sure we can run a quick lab test to see your blood levels. @therapywithjaime check out her brain info too.

It’s women’s brain health day.... and I know this is something I worry about myself with family history of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. . . . So besides the basics we often hear about- omega 3’s, exercise, puzzles, antioxidants, healthy fats, and protein, and avoiding sugar (type 3 diabetes of the brain), did you know that estrogen matters too for women’s brain heath. Estrogen has a profound impact on the brain and a positive effect on learning, memory, mood, as well as the ...neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative process. Estrogen has been shown to prevent or delay memory and cognitive decline. . . . . As a naturopath we have many strategies- herbs, diet changes, as well as bioidentical hormone therapy. . Check out @therapywithjaime post and video for a little more info on our brains too! See more

When your kids all become sauce snobs... there really is nothing like homemade sauce with good quality tomatoes. These traditions have been passed from generation to generation in my husbands Italian family. Whats even more exciting is when your kids says we love sauce parties and we can only hope they keep the tradition strong. . . . We enjoy the sauce all year long on pasta, lasagnas, eggplant or chicken parmigiana, zucchini rolls, stews, chilli and more.

Olea Health 18.06.2020

Garden Swiss chard. One of my fav ways of prepping Swiss chard is a slight steam and then saut with olive oil, garlic and a tsp of honey mustard. My fav!!!! But you can add this nutritional green into soups, stews, or raw in salad too.

Easy tomato soup in a flash. Roast tomatoes and 1 carrot with garlic and olive oil. Add to blender with stock and salt. Voila. . . . . Easy trick if you have no stock use an organic stock cube on water. And another tip is to add a sweet veggies like carrot or squash to cut the acidity of the tomato.

Olea Health 16.05.2020

100 percent of those surveyed said the cant wait for September routine. We know 2020 has been far from normal.... keeping us on our toes at every turn. . . . Pick one health goal you could do better for the month of September and really try to stick with it. Maybe its an extra cup of water. Maybe you add a green vegetable to your diet. Maybe its no sugar or going to bed earlier. Or perhaps its less screen time and adding a book or journaling. Maybe you hug your spouse every day. Or maybe its just flossing.

Olea Health 06.05.2020

Out of my poll of 52 who answered... 72 percent of families are sending their children back to school. Those who are not have many reasons... not necessarily being covid related but more fear of what school now looks like for their kids. . . . A reminder to be kind and understanding of everyones personal situation and families needs. Though we keep expressing that we are in this together ...all of our boats are very different. And a reminder to parents... that the basics of health go a long way. Eat veggies, fruits and protein. Clean your hands. Get good sleep. Lots of vitamin d. And just love those little ones to bits.

Do you notice that when you eat certain food especially tomato or citrus you develop a canker sore or two. Try changing your toothpaste. . SAY WHAT!. . Toothpastes with sodium lauryl sulfate ("SLS"), a foaming agent in toothpastes and mouthwashes, may increase the recurrence rate of canker sores. SLS dries oral tissues, making them vulnerable to irritants and acidic foods.

Pretty sure this bowl gets more and more beautiful by the day. So many varieties coming out of my garden. Whats your favourite tomato ? . . . My kids are not fans. In fact my 6 year old gags when she eats a tomato so our fam loves making sauce and stews. Tomatoes are loaded with lycopene, a powerful antioxidant and rich in vitamin c. However for some tomatoes can be very acidic and being part of the nightshade family; they may trigger an inflammatory reaction for those with certain conditions such as arthritis. All in moderation and being aware of how you feel when you eat something.

A large analysis of 42 studies with more than 800,000 participants found that olive oil reduced heart disease risk. 2-4 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil can increased HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol), lower cholesterol ratios, act as an antioxidant, help with atherosclerosis, and help curb carb cravings. Try consuming this oil raw and avoid heating which can damage its protective mechanisms.
