Oliver and District Heritage Society 29.12.2020

As part of this year's One Hundred X One Hundred project, we’re asking for monthly submissions! Each month we’ll put out a prompt with a different theme and ask you to share photos, memories, artworks, songs, or anything that makes this community and area special to you! These contributions will be shared on our social media during the following month. We’ll start things off this month with our own submission. 2020 was the 40th anniversary of the Oliver & District Heritage So...ciety. Our buildings and exhibits have changed over the years, but we’re still dedicated to preserving and promoting local human and natural history for generations to come. As we’ve grown, we’ve started working toward greater inclusivity and added information about the community’s diversity to our permanent and temporary displays. One of our current goals is to better reflect our community’s many cultures and histories. This year, consider sharing a story about your own history or your family’s experiences, or donating a copy of a photo to the Museum or Archives. You can also ask us about voice recorders and cameras, which are free to use and can be borrowed to record family stories. Next month’s theme is The People. Feel free to share your memories, pictures, art, or other submissions with us as a Facebook message or by emailing the ODHS at [email protected]. If you post your contribution directly on social media, don’t forget to tag your post with #OneHundredXOneHundred so we can find your submission. Thank you! We can’t wait to see your ideas.

The plants in the museum's heritage garden now have identification tags! Next time you're in the area take a walk around the garden and learn the names of some plants commonly found in the South Okanagan. A huge thank you to the Syilx Language House for providing and proofreading the Nsyilxcen translations. This project could not have been completed without their generous help. #heritage #garden #plants #museum #plantmarkers #okanagan #nativeplants #xeriscape
