Women may have an "estrogen advantage" until menopause when estrogen drops and blood pressure begins to rise. This isn't the whole truth though. "the progression of women’s vascular function over time differs greatly from men’s. Though more men develop heart disease at an earlier age, women actually showed signs of BP elevation much earlier in life than men. Our data showed that rates of accelerating blood pressure elevation were significantly higher in women than men, starti...ng earlier in life." Be proactive, not reactive. An inconsistent sleep routine can double your risk of heart disease. Keeping your bedtime consistent within 90 minutes each night, and yes even on the weekends, can help support your heart health and also help you have more energy through the week so you don't face plant by the time you make it to the weekend. a few sleep hacks like setting a timer on your phone, shutting off all screens 30-60 minutes before bed, and dimming your lights by 7 or 8pm can help prepare your body for sleep. http://ow.ly/epej50yIpVM

FREE Virtual Masterclass - April 14 @ 7PM EST Do you start your mornings reaching for the snooze button? During this crazy time, has your sleep routine been turned on its head? or maybe you don't even have a sleep routine - well you should!... Do you face plant at the end of the week and look forward to sleeping in on the weekends to "catch up on sleep"? It doesn't need to be this way and if this is what your weeks look like it's a sign that perhaps you need to take a closer look at your sleep routine. Research has shown that irregularity in beditmes by 90 minutes or more can increase your risk for heart disease. Sleep irregularity is a modifiable risk factor, as is smoking, lack of exercise and poor eating habits. Has your doctor or cardiologist asked about your bedtime routine? There's a few simple things you can do to set yourself up for better sleep: - set a reminder on your phone to remind you to start getting ready, be sure to leave yourself enough time to allow for at least 7 hours of sleep - turn down the lighting in your home between 7-8pm to prepare your body for sleep - power down your screens - TV/phone/computer - 30 to 60 minutes before bed implementing a few strategies will help you tackle your week with better energy so you can sail into the weekend with more energy to do the things that bring you joy. One last thing you can do is show up on April 14 @7pm EST for a FREE virtual masterclass: Be Your Own Sleep Superheroine!. go to www.DrOliviaND.com/sleepnow to join. And if you show up live, I have a special treat for you :) Maybe you are sleep better than a baby, then tag someone know that struggles with sleep, because I know that you do.
