Kitchener-Conestoga Provincial Liberals 13.06.2021

Over a hundred citizens attended a lively and informative panel discussion sharing their ideas about the future of education in Ontario. Moderated by Ernie Ginsler, the panelists included former Ontario Premier and current Education Critic Kathleen Wynne, Dr. Steve Sider, Matthew Gerrits, and Lori Prospero. The panelists’ expertise covered childcare, elementary, secondary and post-secondary education. Education is one of the main pillars of any Ontario government. As the curr...ent government is contemplating changes, the forum was an excellent opportunity for citizens to get involved. What do we value in our society? Do we value equity? asked Dr. Steve Sider, Associate Professor, WLU, If so, how do we ensure that all children and youth from across the province including those with special needs - have access to equitable learning opportunities? Imagine a system where early childhood education and care is a fundamental part of our education system and where we’re valued as an equal partner in supporting children and families to reach their potential. Lori Prospero, Executive Director, Owl Child Care Services of Ontario. There is no silver bullet. Education is a consistent societal commitment, stated Matthew Gerrits, VP Education Federation of Students, University of Waterloo. Our education system from childcare to post-secondary works best when we focus our discussions on policies not on the politics of education. stated MPP Kathleen Wynne, MPP, Don Valley West, Education critic. Kids and progress languish if we get side tracked by politics. Jointly organized by members of the five Provincial Liberal Associations in Waterloo Region, the event was open to citizens across the region and there was no charge to attend.
