It's time to stop the stigma around couples therapy. #MentalHealthAwareness According to the research, prevention is 3x more effective than intervention. Instea...d, many couples don’t do maintenance on their relationship, waiting an average of six years before seeking help with their relationship problems. Discover some of the misconceptions that are preventing couples from acting sooner as we dispel these common myths and reveal the truths about couples therapy. COVID-19 has changed our way of life in ways we never expected. Many - if not all - of our activities have been impacted leaving us feeling at a loss to find comfort and security in our usual ways of coping with stress. It is not unusual under these circumstances to feel anxious and concerned about our welfare and that of our loved ones. [ 625 more words ] http://ottawamindfulnessclinic.com//covid-19-support-for-/

It was a good and productive day! The Ontario Psychological Association activated its #DisasterResponseNetwork to support those affected by #COVID19 by offering... low or no cost psychological services. We extended our help to the Canadian Red Cross in Trenton, ON by offering no cost psychological services for seniors in isolation. I squeezed in an interview with CBC/Radio-Canada to talk about what #psychologists are doing this week & working non stop with Think Research on our goal to on-board 1000 psychologists onto #VirtualCare! REAL PROUD OF ONTARIO PSYCHOLOGISTS TODAY! #onpoli #mentalhealth

Hello Everyone! This has been a challenging week for all of us. It is also a time when our anxiety and frustrations - even anger - can be at peak expression. These are normal reactions to a highly abnormal situation for most of us in Canada. For those of you at home with children, the worry is not just for your own safety and responsibilities, it is also for your children. For those with family members who are medically vulnerable, it may be a time of an unrelenting worry. D...istancing from the people who support us and activities that sustain us is really hard. This time can also activate past insecurities about safety, food, shelter. Be attentive to these feelings. Please know that you are doing your very best in this situation. There is no perfect response to an ever-changing, uncertain scenario. Remember what mindfulness teaches us: - Responses that are dose-related to the situation conserve energy. - Being aware of the rising feelings helps soothing and comforting actions have comforting effect. - Finding creative ways to connect can help if we keep the comparing mind away from our efforts. for example: "This, for now, is good enough" versus "Its not the same as before!" - Watch for that judging mind: "Im lousy at this" is not as helpful as "Im doing what I can in this moment." Although our offices are closed and we are staying away from the workplace, there is assistance available. The Ontario Psychological Association is setting up response teams for mental health needs. When the processes are available, I will post them. In the meantime, reach out to mental health resources. I will post various online groups etc. that are offering connection as they become available. If you know of any, please post them in the comments below. We are together in this. Take good care, Lynette Monteiro

As we navigate the impact of COVID19, we at the OMC have had to make some very difficult decisions. To ensure the safety and health of our participants, teachers, and staff, we have postponed all April group and individual intakes for the May-June session. Please see our website for a full update. https://ottawamindfulnessclinic.com/ (scroll down the page) We will keep you informed of any other changes in our program plans as more information becomes available.... In the meantime, please take care and keep yourselves safe. Surround yourselves with support (using appropriate social distancing). Contact friends and family to see how they are. And most of all: WASH YOUR HANDS!
