Due to circumstances beyond our control we are force to cancel our annual OMFC Airshow for this year. The weather has been so wet this spring that most or our pilots have not flown yet, let alone practiced with their airshow worthy aircraft. Our feelings are that we would rather cancel the show than waste peoples time with a sub-standard version of it. Let us hope that next year we will be back to normal. Sorry for any inconvenience

Safety Reminders: With recent events at the field the following safety tips are noted: 1) Fly with a friend. In case of emergency, help will be readily available. This is especially advised when something new is being tested or run for the first time. A second look by a colleague might make all the difference.... 2) If an engine comes with a lock-nut set or double nut for mounting the propeller, use it. This is especially important for 4-stroke engines. 3) It is never recommended to use use a spacer between Drive Hub and the Propeller or Spinner Backplate. However, if a spacer must be used (usually because proper clearance between the Cowling and Spinner/Propeller cannot be otherwise obtained), make sure it is configured so that it cannot possibly slip. Note the features on any standard Spinner Backplate that prevent slippage. 4) Know where the First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher is located. At our field, both are located in the shed, so that is an additional reason to have the shed open when at the field for ready access. Time can be critical in an emergency. 5) Know what is included in the First Aid Kit so you can quickly find what you need. First Aid training is also invaluable. 6) Injuries are thankfully a rare occurrence at our field but when they do occur, lacerations are often involved. Knowing how to apply a pressure bandage to staunch bleeding can save a life. Handy resources available online can also be useful refreshers: http://www.elitecareemergency.com//how-to-apply-a-pressur/ 7) Have a cell phone available for emergencies. Know the address of the field and the closest main intersection so help can arrive without undue delay. Know the location of the closest Hospital(s) and how to get there. 8) Tightness should not be subjective. If the manufacturer specifies a torque, the recommended way to be sure it is correctly applied is with a properly calibrated torque wrench. Insufficient or excessive torque are equally undesirable. Materials do relax over time so re-checking for tightness is recommended. Not only does individual strength vary, it also generally declines as you age which can affect your feel' as to the actual tightness. An experienced friend to double check tightness especially where critical like engine and propeller mounting is never a bad call. Be safe and prosper!
