GO: Melanie, serving overseas Melanie is a missionary in the Philippines. Hear what God has taught her as she obeyed him in Going! "It is often through what I perceive to be an interruption of my plans that God is working to transform and bring blessing.... When I first arrived in Manila, the intention was for me to serve with the urban poor ministry children’s programs, since this was my ministry background in my home country. However, after 8 months of language study and observing the kids’ ministry, it was suggested that I focus on staff development for the urban poor ministry leaders instead. It’s not what I expected and I feel quite inadequate in the role, but I see how God has provided a role perfectly suited for me. It fits with my passion to support local leaders in helping their own communities, it is an answer to my prayer for an opportunity to build deep relationships with the leaders, and it is something I can still do in the midst of this pandemic. There have been many other unanticipated events, and though I cannot yet fully see it, I know there will also be many unanticipated blessings." See more

Others may leave their homes and careers for a new life among people who speak a different language and eat different foods. Either way, what an amazing privilege! MOBILIZING: Grace and Jonathan's Podcast! Grace, a Serve Asia alumnus, and Jonathan, run a podcast to share stories that mobilize people to live missionally. "During COVID-19, Jonathan’s dream about a missions podcast and Grace's desire to encourage senders to be missional in their everyday lives came together-- and thus, This Faithful Life was born! Our regular listeners have been encouraged by other people's testimonies and words of wisdom. Some individuals have shared certain episodes with their non-believing friends please pray that a seed would be sown and would grow in those who listen! I think these conversations have encouraged us to be missional here at home. Just because we are senders, does not mean we do not have a role to play in the lives of those around us. Listening to how others have pursued missional living has inspired us to follow by example and try those practical tips offered in each episode. This ministry has continued to fuel our fire to serve overseas - the passion and willingness to go is still going strong. Through hearing others’ stories, we've learned that the power of testimony to not only share with non-believers, but also to encourage fellow Christians cannot be understated." See more

WELCOMING: Dave & Kathy in International Student Ministry Dave and Kathy serve international students in Canada. Read what their ministry of welcoming looks like! "What a joy it is to ‘put out the welcome mat’ for Internationals. They are usually so open to connecting, wanting someone to talk to, but usually too shy to ask. Any attempt to make that connection is accepted and also appreciated.... This is a big reason why I’ve become a student (part-time) at YorkU. I’ve signed up for Cultural Anthropology, and at my age, tuition is free! Now, along with a student card and online studies, I can access University events, services, and can attend (online) groups like ‘Global Café’. This is where Internationals hang out, look for friends, and try to fill in the gap of missing family and friends that they left when they came to Canada. Our group is focused on engaging students, inviting them to events, and discipling them. These events are then coupled with watching and discussing an online service. This past Sunday, 10 of us worshipped, prayed, and watched the sermon socially distanced. Then last evening, people of 7 nationalities met for a Bible Discussion in our backyard for 2-3 hours. God is at work, and I’m loving joining into that." See more
