In our quest to expand the scope of our work in support of displaced women and girls, we have created a program to support women and girls of the Farsi speaking refugee communities in Greece, who are seeking asylum. Geographically our work is concentrated in Athens and some of the islands. The situation for asylum seekers and refugees in Greece, particularly the Greek Aegean islands has dramatically worsened over the past year. In Lesvos for instance, the conditions in the Mo...ria refugee camp have been described as a kind of hell on earth in Europe, by Doctors without Borders. OMID’s approach in Greece is holistic and trauma informed. The cornerstones of OMID's program in Greece are: - Legal assistance: Providing core legal services to manage and advance the refugee status of our clients. - Shelter: Providing at risk clients with safe housing and basic subsistence. - Therapeutic intervention: Providing clients with individual and group therapy in order for them to overcome the traumas of their past. - Education: Providing education programs like English language, IT, and Gender Empowerment for clients, both face to face and online. - Trauma informed training: Providing training programs on trauma informed care for the staff of other NGOs in Greece in order to improve their effectiveness in dealing with their traumatized clients.
