We wanted to take a moment for a special shoutout to our friends, Peter Laurie and Javier Bravo. After their marathon was cancelled due to COVID-19 they decided that they would take the opportunity to run anyways just the two of them, raising money for One Roof. It was a killer hot day, but these two managed to run a whopping 42.20km raising and amazing $3,279.41 for One Roof! ... We can not thank these two enough for their inspiring hard work and generosity during these complicated times. Thank you again to Peter and Javier!

The COVID-19 virus is hurting the most vulnerable people in Peterborough. The COVID-19 virus will change operations at One Roof. Effective immediately, One Roof is closed as a drop-in centre. This will be a major blow to people who value One Roof as a safe space and who use it for many important services. But One Roof is dedicated to providing meals to people in need. Your gift can keep the lunch program going during this difficult time.... The Salvation Army is not able to serve breakfast, and Public Health wants to keep the numbers of people congregating as low as possible. Obviously, we want to balance safety and the needs of vulnerable people who need food with the limited number of staff we have to support the program. One Roof staff will run the kitchen going forward. The staff will cook a big lunch and serve takeout meals outside the entrance to One Roof. With no breakfast programs and no dinner programs in the city, your gift can ensure that people receive a healthy, large lunch. One Roof staff plan to prepare large portions, so people can ration food for the day. It’s hard to stomach that food rationing is happening to the most vulnerable during COVID-19, but it is true. To donate to support One Roof please visit www.donateoneroof.ca to make a gift today. I know you and your family are affected by COVID-19. You might not be able to give as much as you would like, and I understand. Any amount you can give will help make a difference for a people in need. We will provide regular updates to you. Yours sincerely, The Reverend Canon Brad Smith St John’s Anglican Church Host of One Roof Community Sarah Fleming Program Coordinator One Roof Community Centre https://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com//9910501-one-roof/
