Had my first close call of the year on the bike. I started to blitz into the roundabout by my house. 100-60kph in short space with a right hander hug the kerb ..., watch the man hole and fire it out. It's dark, 4c and I lay it in both brakes on. I'm holding back a bit but I'm clipping. ...Just as I get to 3ft from the curb I notice the sand. Street cleaning had left a 1ft path of sand accoss my line. A twitch of the front, I stand it up , run wide and slow.deep breath and I know it was a close one. What If I didn't see it ? I would have been down and bouncing off the other curb. Moral of the story? Who's fault would it have been? Mine and all mine, it's dark , I'm blazing corners when it's cold and im sad as fuck is dumb. It's said that the most dangerous part of your ride is 5 min from home when complacency takes over. Don't take it for granted , watch for gravel at all times and just because u have ridden it a million times doesn't make it always safe. Fact. Lucky bear I was. See more
