Why does a Bubble Tip Anemone bubble? Or better yet, why doesn't it bubble? I've read different forums / pages on it. Some say it's flow, some say lighting, some say food, some say a combo, etc. I have done a little experiment in my Nem tank... ... I started off with poor flow and poor lighting (top pic). The BTAs were really large and stretched out while the tentacles were long and skinny. I upgraded the flow to a MP-10 (bottom left pic) and the anemones shrunk a lot. The tentacles remained fairly long and skinny though. The old flow was a 900gph Maxi-Jet with one of those rotating "random flow" tips at one end, and a Maxi-Jet 700 (no tip) at the other. In less than 24 hrs of upgrading the light (bottom right pic) you can already see the anenome is getting it bubbles back! Well, the tentacles are fattening up a lot and some bubbles are already there. I'm excited to see such a big difference already. The lighting was 2 Marineland 8x1w white and 4x1w blue LED bars. It's now a full spectrum 55x3w EverGrow unit ...I absolutlely love these LEDs because they are a good price and put out a lot of light. My 90 gal is an sps dominant tank and it had an EverGrow on it for almost a year. All water parameters have been fairly consistent in this tank. I haven't dosed anything and my water changes have been the same volume every time. I would have to say it was a combo of lighting and flow but mostly the lighting. After they bubble up, I might switch the flow back to see if there is any change.
