GO FUND ME - YOUTH HOMELESSNESS OR YOUTH HOUSING? Covid has really put a damper on our ability to launch the capital campaign we were hoping to launch early in 2020; the campaign is needed to raise funds toward our Supportive Housing build! This build will see the construction of up to 27 units that will house the youth experiencing homelessness in this region. This could mean that 45 youth (as some of the units are 2 bedroom) are off the street and into stable housing. I...magine it!!! This could ERADICATE youth homelessness in Waterloo Region We need your help to do it via this virtual fundraiser we are launching - not ideal, I know...but in these unprecedented times, unprecedented measures need to be attempted. YOUTH CAREER OPPORTUNITY - EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY One ROOF Youth Services has positions available in our (SEE) employment program. We are currently accepting applications from individuals who fit the following criteria:... - Employment Start Date: January 4, 2021 - Between the ages of 16 - 30 - Are currently experiencing barriers or have experienced barriers in obtaining employment due to being a member of a visible minority and/or marginalized population - Are at risk of experiencing homelessness and/or have a history of unstable housing - Must be able to commit to the 16 week program consisting of 30 hours per week, Tuesday - Friday 9:30am - 5:00pm The program offers a combination of paid employment skills training, as well as paid work experience in woodworking, culinary, and retail positions. Interviews are currently taking place and available spots are limited. Thank you to Kitchener Bike Rescue, David and Scott, for Volunteering your leadership in teaching youth the skills required to repair and rebuild bikes. Thank you to oneROOF Youth Services Volunteer Lee, for assisting youth with this program. Both new and used bikes were thankfully donated by community partners. The generosity of community has contributed to the success in initiating and running this program 3 afternoons weekly.
