Decolonising Yoga? Some steps for how to begin. Honour source. Wise up on where yoga has come from, what we actually mean when we use such terms and the vari...ety in definitions and understanding. Move beyond the radically simplified history of yoga we are spoon feed. It is rich, it is surprising and at times, it is confronting. Cultural Appropriation? Why are you chanting what your chanting, saying what you are saying? What lays under the exotic phrases? What essence of belonging are you searching for? Change the image of yoga. Do you use yoga photos that reflect the depth of what you believe is possible through your practice? How do you convey that? How do you show that yoga is beyond a recreational hobby for wealthy white women? Break away from the Wellness and Health Industry. We are aiming at real individual and collective integration right? Not just to feel good about ourselves so we can go on spinning the hamster wheel. Accessibility: How do you make your classes and courses accessible to practitioners who dont have the money or TIME to access them? Reassess profit: The value lays in real and actual benefit to the practitioners. Power away from the teacher: Reclaim self-practice for there is no need for an intermediary between practitioner and yoga. Teach in a way that you as the teacher are no longer needed. Listen to what is needed. It might mean you have to drastically change your agenda. It might mean that teaching yoga isnt the solution for everything. It might clash with other cultural beliefs and that is ok! Perhaps the strength lays in your own personal practice and how that can support you to move into life. Question: We all want to teach but who wants to practice? Speak to what lays beyond the posture and give space to feel, not to have to entertain or distract. Have the courage to break with convention if that convention restricts how you move/feel/perceive. Inner Revolution: Is your practice, or are your classes, allowing you to stick on a band aid and uphold tired systems of oppression? Or is your yoga providing support and inspiration to move in entirely new ways that allow for real progressive change beyond knee jerk reactions, fight flight responses or spiritual bypassing? * Developing emotional resilience and stability: This doesnt equate to numbing out, using our practice to further distract or "transcend" trauma because we get on the mat every day. This means actively making space to feel and "integrate". * The next step to healing is to have a good look at how we may participate in systems of oppression that we may verbally renounce. Look at the personal and cultural shadows. It can be deeply uncomfortable, so a solid practice helps in order to further embody a healthy sense of self (without being self-centered) within a greater collective. * Yoga Teacher Trainings (well I could write a whole post on this alone) yet let us start with bringing in a segment on critical issues in yoga including an exploration of all of the above! But knowing that other out in this big messy world are feeling that ache and love , inspire me to step into my uncomfortable just a bit further thank you @glennondoyle for being contagious #untamed #becontagious #bebrave #beyou #beuncomfortable #shareyourstory #itsgoingtobeokay

Dec12 was my last day in operation as a Personal Trainer at 121fitness as it had been know for 25 years~then 2 months later I officially have closed the physical doors of 121fitness Whoa I thought Dec12 was hard~~~~~~~but the last 8 weeks has been like pulling a bandaid off very slowly~~I watched my once beautiful studio diminish to grimy floors, patchy walls, photos removed and replaced, logos torn and a very empty space. OH the lessons we will learn,, oh the mountains we... will climb, oh the LANDSLIDES we will rise from. ~This is a bit of what I have learnt about myself and life in my last 60 days...... 1-IM MORE INTROVERTED than I thought~I being at home! Quiet~reading~meditating~coffee~family. 2-Owning a business is exciting, rewarding and fulfilling BUT its also a heavy grind IM TIRED. 3-if you choose not to listen to SIGNS those signs will get bigger and bigger until you get knocked down ~it was time to WAKE UP& LISTEN. 4-FAMILY is everything ~PERIOD! 5-I like YOGAlike I really DO! ......and lastly my feelings of gratitude for my life, the beautiful people in it and for the choices Ive made and learnt from....life really is SHORT~Live~love~beBrave~live your truth. #lessonslearnedinlife #bebrave #bellevilleontario #25yearsold #strongbodystrongmind #yoga #coffeelover #selfgrowth #sharingstories #lifegoeson See more
And so it goes.....I said lets call CAA!! Nah we got thishave you ever changed a tire Andrea?...so I thought well if I havent there are other girlfriends who havent too...so here it goes in 9 pics.....1-loosen the bolts on the old..2-jack up the car(trailer in this case) 3-once tire is lifted off the ground take bolts off tire and pull tire off 4-discard tire (FYI the dump (where the tire died)!! They will take tires for free and discard 5-put new tire on WITH old b...olts (they dont come with new tire) 6-tighten those babies up 7-lower the jack ...and BAMB brand new .....lets be honest NONE of this would not have happened with the amazing instructor Dave. .....one more note...it could have been -20(only -8 a tad breezie)....it could have been on the side of the 401....it could have been a snowstorm .....#findyoursunshine #turnlemonsintolemonade always #happysaturdayeveryone.
