The #ASCIS Grade 7's and 8's discussed motivation this week in health. They reflected on what motivates them to persevere through challenges and inspires them to apply themselves to becoming global citizens. They found quotes that they found reflected their attitudes towards dedicating themselves to their various obligations.

#ASCIS Grade 8 students had their first experience of doing a fully online experiment during Science class. Students were watching and instructing Miss Gibb through a two-part experiment. Part 1 was looking at the mechanical advantage (MA) and ideal mechanical advantage (IMA) of a first class lever. Part 2 was looking at the MA and IMA of an inclined plane. Students were required to do calculations for each trial and analyze their results. Great teamwork grade 8s!

At their Board Meeting on Monday, December 7, 2020, the ASCIS Directors decided that ASCIS must remain pro-active in assisting our school community to stay safe and in good health. Given the continually rising numbers of COVID outbreaks within Essex County, the Directors decided that: effective Wednesday, December 9, and until further notice, all high school day students must remain off-campus and will follow their regular schedule of classes online remotely from home. eff...ective Thursday, December 10, and until further notice, all elementary day students must remain off-campus and will take their classes online remotely from home. Please be assured that, to the best of our knowledge, no case of COVID-19 has been reported at ASCIS. We believe this action will help keep our school families safe for the holidays and we look forward to being all back together in person in January. We wish all our ASCIS Families the good wishes and blessings of a safe and healthy Christmas holiday season.

#ASCIS Grade 1 students have been working very hard on their coding skills! Students are continuing to code with Laurel and collecting gems. As well as using loops to draw images by looping simple sequences of instructions. In previous lessons students used loops to navigate mazes and collect treasure, this time they are creating patterns. Excellent work Grade 1s!

#ASCIS Grade 7 students have been working diligently at completing their #MYP assignments! Their assignment included creating a PowerPoint presentation for a group of elderly students they were 'teaching' at the college. Students had to include information about how to connect to a network (internet) from a laptop, types of network hardware that are important to know about and finally how to troubleshoot if connections are not working. Grade 7 students demonstrated many wonderful IB learner profile skills such as, communicators, thinkers, inquirers, knowledgeable and risk-takers. Excellent work grade 7s!
