GOOD Breeders aren’t vending machines, and puppies aren’t available to add to a shopping cart. GOOD Breeders spend years researching pedigrees and planning breedings. GOOD Breeders spend thousands of dollars on their dogs, Health Testing, Titling Proving and providing an environment for their dogs to thrive. GOOD breeders spend countless hours on their dogs, grooming, traveling to events or studs or vets, researching and providing care. ... Good Breeders shed so many tears over missed breedings, lost puppies, beautiful show potential puppies whose sent to the wrong home (or some other minor issue), losing moms, injuries or emergency illness. Instead of searching for a puppy, seek out a breeder whose dogs you admire and whose program you love. HONOR the breeder’s sacrifices they make for their passion for the breed, and get to know them. Ask them about their program and goals. Then be prepared to wait for your perfect match. Breeding is truly a labor of love. A "GOOD" breeder isn’t churning out puppies to sell them on the next ISO post, they are breeding with intention and with specific goals in mind. #preservationbreeding #responsiblebreeding #goodbreeder

Here’s a fun photo. This was Dots first year of training. We had just got her back from Campaigning on both the US and Canadian show circuit, attaining both cha...mpionships with multi group placements. This is the first dog I sent away to campaign before gundog training. We basically introduced her to birds and then sent her off. First order of business is to build drive. So letting her chase birds that she can’t catch accomplished that. Then comes the steady training, as you can definitely see in the second photo. That was accomplished in a matter of hours. Now the natural ability runs very strong in my lines. It was proven in Minnesota with a quick stop on the way back from Ohio picking up Dot from my handler, with Nate Wafel. We stopped in for a woodcock hunt and before the day was out miss Dot pinned a woodcock at a couple hundred yards out in-front of us with one of Nate’s Setters backing. Now we know she didn’t steal the point, as by this time Nate had talked me into running a GPS collar on her, and once locked she never moved. Now I did a fabulous job of cutting 2 trees down after walking in on it and watching it fly off in the distance. Third photo is her 1 year later, running as our main dog for the season. My point is, it’s not how much work you put into your dogs, rather starting out with a good dog to begin with. You can spend 10 grand on a Datsun, at the end of the day it’s still a Datsun. So the next time your looking for a pup, make sure your starting on the right foot.

After a couple weeks with Jeff since her breeding, Atta is back in the pack as he has to return to Texas for work. Here the pack is displaying the "get out of my kitchen" command... ;)

Well? Its been a few years since we got Alaska, and we've all seen the progress Josh made in training him, and in Kierra in riding him. Now? He needs a new fence! Kierra is learning what it takes to take logs and turn them into posts and rails! Step 1. (Well, after Josh harvested the trees) is to pull the logs into the shop with the quad. Step 2. Use the mill to cut them!... Soon we'll be drilling holes and putting it together! Stay Tuned!

I tell people all the time that these guys make great couch potatoes. Most people don't believe me after seeing them in action - or doing some research on the GSP breed. But this is what a dog's life looks like when they are fed and exercised properly

2018 has been a great year for dog training at ground zero. A few of our pups are well on their way, and River is dialed in right where we want him. The snow is on the ground and its time to get episodes ready for Wild TV

It’s all about teaching them how to apply the correct amount of pressure on a running bird. Here’s an example of Dot getting it done

Borrowed from the Washington Waterfowl Association. Pictures here is Ch. LegacyK Estate Tailored Tikka. Great Grandmother to the latest generation of our lines. Living a life of retirement. Rules For Owning a Gun Dog 1. Spend time with them each day. You are their everything. 2. Don’t hide your excitement, let them see the kid in you. ... 3. Your expectations of a bird dog are high but their expectations of an owner are higher. 4. Don’t sleep on it take them to the vet. 5. Go hunting with them at least one time just the two of you. 6. Tell your new friends about your old dogs. 7. Their falses aren’t the only ones in the field. 8. Judge your hunting friends by how they treat their dogs. 9. Always stop to pet them. 10. Stop walking, sit down you will see how much they love you. Enjoy it. 11. Treat puppies like puppies and treat your 12 year old like he still is one. 12. Know when to retire them and give them everything they want. They gave you everything they had. 13. Have patience when they are hard of hearing...it’s the birds fault. 14. Show your boys that there’s reasons to be gentle in this world. Bird dogs are just one of them. 15. You helped her down the stairs when she was young now help her up them when she is old. 16. Take the picture every single damn time. It’s worth it. 17. Enjoy their determination even when it’s not after a bird. 18. When it’s time to say goodbye don’t leave his side. Hold him. He knows what’s happening and he’s happy you are with him. 19. Remember them, visit the places that made you both so happy. Think about her while you stop walking and sit down with her daughter on an October afternoon. 20. Understand that you can not fill the hole they left in your heart but remember them and they will be with you every step of the way. See more

What an awesome morning to go check for grouse. Took Brady for his first ruffie hunt over dogs. 4 up 4 down. 100% accuracy. Nice to take the old girl out for a stroll, but Am/Can Ch. Vielseitigs It’s a Bugs Life was the star for the day. But Gypsy had a blast, and I think she was letting the young gun do the heavy lifting.

Beautiful morning hunt today. Took River out for his first hunt on waterfowl in three years. Ducks played fantastic, shot all 3 limits. Geese wouldn’t play nice without wind but managed 2 limits. We had a sandhill crane stop by the decoys and a ton of swans do a flyby. Just a great morning to be in a blind.

JUST A DOG From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog." Some of my proudest moments have come about with ... "just a dog." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day. If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure and unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better person. Because of "just a dog," I will rise early, take long rides and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog," but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a man." So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog," just smile--because they "just don't understand." ~Author Unknown~

What an awesome opening week up here in Alberta. Jeff being back from Texas with Atta Bean was the icing on the cake. We had quite a few nice little hunts, instead of big groups like we normally do. First of all Atta Bean. OMG she is definitely a finished dog on the field and the spitting image of her mother. I personally watched her run down a wounded goose over 500 yards, tackle it and bring it back to the blind. Genetics are a wonderful thing. I tried to get Cricket out a...s much as possible to hunt with her. But age is starting to catch up with her. Gonna miss you two Jeff and Atta. They are on their way back to Texas as I type this. And Creed, back from Ohio. Getting him back on the upland fields has been amazing. Sandy has been running him all summer, getting him back in field shape, and has it ever payed off. Him and Dot put on 26.8 km on their last hunt, in 3 hours. That’s moving!!! As a breeder, being able to hunt over dogs I have produced and see the genetics that are passed down is an amazing feeling. Dogs are tired, I’m tired, but the season has just begun!! Here’s to great dogs and good friends!!!

What an awesome evening taking Bravo team out for a pheasant hunt. Both of these dogs I’ve put a ton of training on personally. Am. Ch. Vielseitigs Creed at Springrun and Am/Can Ch. Vielseitigs It’s a Bugs Life FDJ The highlight of the evening was Dot on Point with Creed backing her, and a beautiful rooster blew out of the cover and not a dog moved an inch. Both watched the bird fly off, including both shooters. We were way behind the dogs so we got the chance to take the ...spectators seat. And the two gunners shot 100% tonight and went 4 for 4. Nothing beats shooting over dogs you’ve bred and trained, with hand loaded black powder ammunition. But the stars of the evening were definitely the dogs.

Last night we learned of the passing of handler Larry Clark. It will definitely go up as a tragic loss for the show world. I have competed against him many times, and considered him, not only a gentleman in the ring, but a fierce one to go up against. I dreaded going up against him in the group ring. But he was also very knowledgeable, always willing to listen or offer advise, and you could always count on him making you smile. Gonna miss ya bud, safe travels
