This past Sunday we partnered with Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy (EBC) at their Phillips Peel property (southwest of Arthur) to increase the tree structural diversity of an old white pine plantation found on the property by planting 150 trees. By increasing the tree biodiversity of this forest, we hope to have a positive effect on it's climate change resilience capacity. This was part of OLTA's Climate Action Program funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Thank you to the EBC staff and volunteers that came out and helped with the plantings!

Last week we collaborated with The rare Charitable Research Reserve at their Blair Flats property to create an ecological barrier by planting 215 trees and shrubs to decrease noise pollution from an adjacent roadway and assist with flood mitigation. This was part of OLTA's Climate Action Program funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Thank you to everyone that came out and helped with the plantings!

Our Keynote speaker for OLTA's 2020 digital Gathering, Dr. Harvey Locke, contributed to a recently published report entitled "Covid-19 Response and Recovery: Nature-Based Solutions for People, Planet and Prosperity". The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted now more than ever the importance of the connection between the health of the natural environment and the health of humans. This critical connection needs to be better reflected in our priorities, policies and actions. This report looks at an integrated approach and unprecedented cooperation to achieve an equitable carbon-neutral, nature-positive economic recovery and a sustainable future.

Great news for nature in Ontario! The Government of Ontario has announced $20 million for Nature Conservancy of Canada / Conservation de la nature Canada and the Ontario Land Trust Alliance for new conservation projects. This partnership will help maximize progress towards Ontario's 2020 land conservation targets and climate change goals, while supporting sustainable and livable communities across Ontario for future generations and all the species we share the land with! ...
