Tom Garbatt, past National Director of the Ontario Region, was presented with his Lifetime Membership certificate, card and pin at the March 5 Niagara Falls Local General Membership Meeting. Congratulations Brother Garbatt, this recognition is well-deserved following your years of service on behalf of the members of CUPW and the labour movement.

Dear Member of Parliament, CC. Jessica McDonald, CEO of Canada Post; Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Public Services; Patty Hadju; Minister of Labour; Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada. As your constituent, I am writing to support the demands of the 50,000 members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers for a negotiated agreement that makes much needed improvements in health and safety, gender equality, and good, full-time middle-class jobs.... I love my public postal service. I believe Canada Post can do even more by expanding services like postal banking so Canadians all across the country can get the financial access they deserve. To achieve that, postal workers need to be treated fairly and with respect. Postal workers have been negotiating for almost a year, and yet Canada Post has not moved on key issues affecting their work. The working conditions of postal workers have deteriorated over the last decade in part because Canada Post has failed to properly address the massive increase in parcel volumes and the burden it has placed on members. The postal service is one of our most valued public services, and its workers are putting forward common-sense solutions that would benefit the entire country. Let's stand with them. Sincerely, Giovanni Cuda

Mr. Prime Minister, Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I have proudly delivered mail for over 25 years in my community, Brantford and Paris Ontario. For the last two years, my average work day has consisted of some 27 kilometers and totaled almost eleven hours. My toes are now filled with arthritis, I have an ankle that is permanently swollen and I fear carpal tunnel syndrome in at least one of my wrists. ...Continue reading

Mr. Trudeau, I feel that Canada Post doesn’t have any concern for their employees health and safety. They claim to care but in reality there are many that are injured or working through injuries while walking 25+km routes. With the expanding parcel business we need to find new ways to fix our long over accessed walks to make them manageable. PLEASE let Canada Post and CUPW negotiate a fair collective agreement with out intervening. I feel that Canada Post will never negotiat...e fairly because they think that the government will always legislate the workers back and there fore they always seem to get what they want. I feel as if they know that they can take advantage of us workers. I feel completely deflated hearing that us employees will most likely be legislated back to work. We had a strong voting mandate to strike because we are ALL desperate to have a fair contract. Also I know it is a busy time of year and all these large online companies are panicking because they are worried that they are going to lose business because there item that they are selling won’t get to their customer on time. From my experience in speaking with actual customers on my walk have told me that they have only waited a few days for their parcel. Canada post is exaggerating as to how much these rotating strikes are having a negative impact on their customers. As a employee I would love to see a change in how Canada Post deals with their employees and have a FAIR collective agreement. Yours truly, Jennifer Ralph
