Awareness Week January 19-24, 2014 TEPO Toronto East Parole CAC 1. Jan 23 - Hold an Information Sharing Session with TEPO Staff using the "Getting to Know Us" Information Sheet as a discussion start point. 2. Jan 23 - Hold our Monthly Meeting at the TEPO at 12 Noon and invite TEPO Staff. 3. January Month - Attend the TEPO Office Weekly and be available to all staff for discussions.... Just completed 1. Oct 17 Held our first ever Monthly Meeting in the Oshawa Sub Office. 2. Oct 24 Held a CAC Information Session with an Asian Community Group in Markham. 3. Nov 15 Met with the Chair of TDSB with AD on possible relocation of office. 4. Nov 19 Attend the Staff Wellness Committee Meeting as member of Giving Back Sub Committee. 5. CAC Awareness Week Warkworth - The Staff and Management Team at Warkworth Institution are meeting with their CAC members. Warkworth Institution is a fairly large facility and is spread out over a large area. When the CAC members come for their Monthly meeting the contact within the Institution is fairly limited. For the CAC Awareness Week a plan to take a tour the CAC Members through the institution. Part of the invitation reads, Wednesday January 22nd as an opportunity f...or CAC members to meet and greet with our staff in their various work locations. This will be an excellent opportunity for our staff to put a face with the names of our members and to have a better understanding of your role at our site and Following the tour, we are planning an open house in 3 building, beginning at 11am, with cake and coffee. The CAC in Peterborough Ontario, working with the Peterborough Parole Office, has planned an Open House for January 23 2014. The doors of our Parole Office will be welcoming CSC Community Partners. Ted Boynton, CAC Chair for Peterborough Parole invites our community stating, "Meet the Parole Officer Supervisor - Parole Officers - Administrative Staff the Community Employment Coordinator - the Correctional Program Officer. You can also Meet your Peterborough's Citizen Advi...sory Committee (CAC) Members (volunteers representing citizens of our community) who Observe, Liaise and Advise with CSC Staff Feel free to ask questions and learn how together we are integrating people back into our neighbourhoods and assisting them to become positive members in our Communities Coffee and Refreshments provided"

CAC Awareness Week will be held the week of January 19-25, 2014 and the theme will be ‘Getting to Know Us’. Suppose you are a CAC Member. If you ask someone in the community if they know what a CAC member does or what CAC is all about... do you think they would know. There are close to 600 citizens that participate in 106 Citizen Advisory Committees across Canada. Members represent various social, cultural, and demographic backgrounds and occupations, and usually live close ...to the facility that the committee serves. Members are volunteers who are appointed for a period of two years, by the director, warden or parole representative of the CSC. Commissioner Don Head states that, as informed participants in the correctional process, you are charged with not only representing the views of the communities in which we operate, but also in representing CSC’s mandate and values to the community. By actively engaging community support, you help bridge the gap between offenders in correctional facilities and the community.
