CBA is proud to announce Janet Yochim as the Manager of the National Youth Band of Canada!! Congratulations, Janet! Please join the CBA in welcoming her to her ...new role. Janet started teaching band in Virden, Manitoba in 1988 and immediately began volunteering to help with local music events. As her volunteer work expanded, Janet became the President of the Westman Band Directors Association from 2004-2012. During that time, she was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Westman Junior and Senior Honour Band, a program that hosts over 180 students from 23 different communities. Janet has experience running symposia, festivals and conferences for both students and teachers. She also has extensive travel-planning knowledge for concert bands as she has taken her school bands on performance tours including sites from Whistler to Halifax. Janet has been a featured clinician at Brandon University Clarinet Festival, Dauphin Summer Music Camp, Parkland/Norman Honour Band, Swan Valley Fine Arts Festival, and has guest conducted many school bands in the West Manitoba region. A regular presenter at the conferences and workshops across Manitoba, Janet has also held positions on the boards of the Manitoba Band Association, Canadian Band Association, Manitoba Music Educators’ Association, and the Catholic Women’s League of Canada. She was awarded the 2016 Manitoba Band Association Award of Distinction, the organization’s highest honour. Thank you to the search committee for their professionalism and time during this process. The OBA has developed a document to assist Ontario music educators with a full Return to Band. We are aware that many of our members are not permitted to use wind instruments at this time, however, we know that the Return to Band process will be integral when the use of wind instruments is welcomed. The OBA recognizes that every Board of Education will be working along their own timelines and the Return to Band continuum might be used by some members earlier than others.
