News- Windsor area man charged for careless use of a firearm and fined $5000 plus one year automatic suspension. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) wants to remind hunters that discharging your firearm on or across a roadway is both dangerous and illegal. As well, hunters should be aware of their targets and beyond, prior to discharging their firearms. An investigation by the MNRF has resulted in a Windsor man being fined $5,000, along with his hunting pri...vileges being suspended for one year and a requirement to retake the mandatory hunter safety course for shooting down a roadway. Joseph Clark pleaded guilty to carelessly using a firearm to hunt. Court heard that on October 19, 2019, conservation officers were on patrol on Moran Lake Road, near the village of Caramat, when Clark was stopped for inspection by officers. Investigation revealed that Clark had discharged multiple rounds from his high-powered rifle down the maintained roadway while aiming at a moose. Justice of the Peace Bernard Coran heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Geraldton on January 12, 2021, via teleconference. MNRF conservation officers continue to patrol and protect our natural resources during the current COVID-19 pandemic and would like to remind everyone that by respecting seasons, sanctuaries, bag and possession limits we all help ensure our natural resources stay healthy. Visit Ontario's website to learn more about how the province continues to protect Ontarians from COVID-19. To report a natural resource violation or provide information about an unsolved case, members of the public can call the ministry TIPS line toll free at 1-877-847-7667 or contact your local ministry office. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS. For more information about unsolved cases, please visit ontario.ca/mnrftips.

NEWS - Conservation Officers need the public’s help identifying the latest offenders who have dumped garbage in the Gananoque Provincial Wildlife Area. Do you know who’s turning a wildlife area into a garbage dump? On November 12th, 2020, hunters reported garbage had been dumped along the roadway in the wildlife area. This has been an ongoing problem. MNRF has attempted to restrict vehicular access to the area due to the dumping of construction waste and other garbage. The g...ate is frequently vandalized and has been open since the spring. Even when the gate is locked, the area remains accessible by ATV, snowmobile, on foot and by other non-motorized means. If you know anything about the garbage dumping please call 1-877-MNR-TIPS (1-877-847-7667). MNRF conservation officers continue to patrol and protect our natural resources during the current COVID 19 outbreak and would like to remind everyone that by respecting seasons, sanctuaries, bag and possession limits we all help ensure our natural resources stay healthy.
