Grieving over missing the heli-skiing season.....hopefully is not all over yet!

Looks like the Matterhorn is done for this summer season......thanks Markus Beck for keeping the fingers on the pulse.

With travel restrictions unlikely to change anytime soon, most heli and cat skiing operators in Canada are coming to a decision point before committing to fixed cost that will be difficult to earn back with the small domestic market and the operational restrictions mandated by public health regulations.

Quiet summer here in the Canadian Rockies lacking our international visitors. Conditions on the glaciers and high peaks are excellent currently. Images are from the Wapta Icefields / Mount Olive ascent a few days ago.....

Current pictures from the Dolomites after the recent snowfall. Our friends at the Buellelejoch Hut / Pian di Cengia are shutting down early even before the usually busy national holiday in Germany in light of more bad weather to come.......We sure hope to be back next summer!

The Alpine Club Huts in the Alps are opening up again with a Covid19 concept including dividers in dorms, sleeping only in your "Covid cell" or unless at least 1.5 meters of distance can be maintained, overnight stays only with reservation, only if you're healthy and only if you have your own sleeping bag and pillow.

Just like the beautiful Gleckstein Hut in the Bernese Alps the huts in the Alps are opening up again in mid-June under guide lines meant to maintain a low likelyhood of the Covid19 transmission: Reduced capacity makes for more space, seating and sleeping arrangements strictly in your travel group, own sleeping bags and masks inside. In the Canadian Rockies the Alpine Club Huts are still scheduled to reopen on June 13 and we are waiting for news on their "modus operandus" for this summer.
