Onyx Society at OCADU 10.02.2022

On behalf of the Onyx Society, we want to thank everyone for their ongoing support over the past three years as we end one era and transition into anew. Onyx has been a place for many of us to foster great partnerships, collaborations and provide a sense of belonging. We created a space to gather and have dialogue on our diverse experiences. Most importantly, Onyx was a space to begin to explore the challenges that come with our art, design and the representation of creatives... of colour. Being young creatives, we believe in growth as a natural process needed to evolve. As this dialogue continues and evolves, so will we. We look forward to this growth being reflected in our future work and hope for the best for all of the artists involved in Onyx at OCADU. We would still like to preserve this page as a sharing ground for any resources or relevant work that people would like to share with the past Onyx community and our BSA communities at York, Ryerson and UofT. If anyone would like to get in touch, [email protected] is still active as some of us still work with old and new collaborators. While we may not be active as Onyx, if there's a need for a contact from our past group at OCAD, this is where we can be reached. Special thanks to Mark V. Campbell, Andrea Fatona, Lillian Allen, Nia Centre for the Arts and Kim Katrin Milan for your immeasurable mentorship and every artist, performer, collective and supporter who came out to our first exhibit and events. The best is yet to come. OSO.

https://www.facebook.com/events/1535808506663807/?ref_newsfeed_story_type=regular&source=1 Calling all OCAD University students! Project: SPACES is in the process of renovating our two office locations, and have two opportunities we'd like to explore: 1) Gallery Space. We have a lot of blank walls, and would love to have some artwork rotating on them. It's not a formal gallery space, but we would love to donate these walls if students (on a monthly/bi-monthly basis) wanted to... showcase their work. 2) Wall Murals or Typographic Signage. One of our members, Ben Johnston Design, designed and executed two beautiful type-murals in our spaces. There are similar projects we'd love to have executed (some of them have detailed project briefs, others allow for creative freedom). If interested, please RSVP to an info session that will be held on Thursday, October 30th, at 5:30pm. We'll start at Project: RHINO and make our way over to Project: OWL so that everyone has an opportunity to see the spaces in person. Bring a camera and a notepad! Feel free to post any questions. Looking forward to meeting you all!
