Below is the most recent COVID-19 directive for funerals, funeral homes and cemeteries as we head into another lockdown. Through patience, kindness, protection and practice we will prevail. Registrar’s Directive: Funeral attendance restricted to 15% indoors... to a max of 50 people indoors or outdoors Effective, Saturday, April 3, 2021 Funeral services in Ontario will be restricted to 15 per cent of capacity for an entire facility, with physical distancing, to a maximum of 50 people indoors or outdoors. The indoor and outdoor limits cannot be combined to allow more than 50 people in total (not counting funeral staff). The restrictions go into place Saturday, as do the Government of Ontario’s new COVID-19 restrictions announced today (Thursday afternoon). Funeral-related receptions are not permitted indoors and are limited to five people outdoors. No food or drinks are permitted. This Registrar’s Directive covers all funerals and visitations regardless of the venue anywhere in Ontario. The measures will be familiar as they match the current BAO restrictions listed in its Grey-Lockdown category. Below is the most current directive from our regulatory body; the Bereavement Authority of Ontario regarding funerals, funeral gatherings and graveside services. Please note the rule of 30% capacity in the funeral home has not changed, however we are now able to have up to 100 people present at a graveside service. Masks, social distancing, hand washing are mandatory. We continue to strive to meet the needs of our families, finding new ways to address the current situati...on with as much understanding and flexibility as we can. Only together can we beat COVID-19; cooperation, compassion, patience and understanding are both our best weapons and defence. Registrar’s Directive: Phase 3 Attendance Limits Effective Friday, July 17, 2020, areas that enter Phase 3 of Ontario’s re-opening plan are subject to the following attendance limits: 1. Indoor funeral services and visitations are limited to 30 per cent of the capacity of the room, while maintaining two-metre physical distancing between attendees. (This is unchanged from the previous Registrar’s Directive of June 13.) All other requirements of the previous Registrar’s Directive remain in effect. (One staff per 10 attendees, guestbook, etc.) 2. Outdoor funeral services and visitations including graveside services are limited to a maximum of 100 attendees. Funeral Directors must have sufficient numbers of staff present to ensure physical distancing is maintained. Cemeteries are permitted to restrict attendance numbers to less than the maximum. (Funeral professionals should confirm these restrictions in advance of the service.) As per the Registrar’s Directive, effective July 8: Wearing a mask or face coverings remains mandatory for all persons (funeral staff and attendees) inside all funeral establishments or any other indoor setting where a funeral or visitation is held in the following public health jurisdictions: Windsor-Essex County Chatham-Kent Lambton Middlesex-London Haldimand-Norfolk Niagara Hamilton Region of Waterloo Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Halton Peel Toronto York Simcoe-Muskoka Durham Haliburton-Kawartha-Pine Ridge Leeds-Grenville-Lanark Ottawa Wearing a mask or face covering is strongly advised at all funerals or visitations in all other jurisdictions. Areas entering Phase 3 on Friday are listed in the Government of Ontario’s July 13 announcement. All other areas of the province remain in Phase 2 until further notice from the government.

With some of the restrictions being lifted and modified, we have put some expected rules in place for attending the funeral home. The rule is still a maximum of 10, however if all of the rules are followed and guidelines met we are able to expand those numbers to 30% capacity of our facilities. OUR RULES FOR ATTENDING VISITATION OR SERVICES AT THE FUNERAL HOME: PLEASE REMAIN IN YOUR VEHICLE, UNTIL YOUR SCHEDULED TIME OF VISITATION OR SERVICE. (you will be made aware in advance of your timing). WEARING A MASK DURING YOUR TIME IN OUR BUILDING IS MANDATORY. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A MASK OF YOUR OWN, ONE WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU AS YOU ENTER OUR BUILDING. (please note our supply is limited) PLEASE SANITIZE YOUR HANDS UPON ENTRANCE TO OUR BUILDING. PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF YOUR PHYSICAL DISTANCE FOR OTHER VISITORS. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU REMAIN 2 METRES FROM OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT FROM YOUR OWN HOUSEHOLD. PLEASE GIVE YOUR NAME TO OUR STAFF UPON ENTRANCE. WE WILL RECORD YOUR ATTENDANCE IN THE FAMILY GUESTBOOK. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION Together we will triumph!

Below is the the most current directive regarding funerals and funeral gatherings. The expectation of a group of 10 has not changed. Funerals can happen, they just have an different appearance in the current climate. There has been some confusion, concern and criticism regarding these numbers both by the public and professionals.
