SKULL AUCTION IN SUPPORT OF ACROSS BOUNDARIES MENTAL HEALTH CENTRE. - - - Details >>> @joriemarie

This is one of the first things we hear when we tell people we own a farm. However, people aren’t looking at Willie, they’re looking at me. This always strikes me as odd and I always ask What does a farmer look like? I’ve never gotten a straight answer. Maybe because in that moment, the person has caught themselves in an inherent bias that they didn’t even know they had. Why is it so surprising that I (a bi-racial woman) own a farm and not my husband (a white ma...n)? The other automatic assumption is that the farm we own, is a business that has been passed down through family, Your husband’s family? Is the question that I’m asked. Nope. It was as much my idea as it was his, it was actually my idea first. Ask yourself, where have you seen the image of Black people and people of colour in agriculture, or even nature for that matter? Most likely it’s been in publications like National Geographic or through history books that document slavery. Remote tribal communities and cotton/sugarcane plantations are not the only place to find Black people outdoors. Curiosity is good, bias is bad. Get curious about why the representation is so biased? Because truthfully, you wouldn’t question that Willie was a farmer, but you can understand why someone would question that I was. Let’s actively change the narrative. See more

We’re always brainstorming ways we can leverage our skills and resources on the farm to continue to grow our offerings. This year our very own @joriemarie has taken a deep dive into making wreaths - and they’ve been a hit to say the least. If you’re local, you can pick up one of Jorie’s wreaths for your home/office at our favourite coffee spot - @fifthchutecoffee! . $40 for a 23/24 wreath (shoot us a message for custom orders)

Two years ago, if you told us we’d be in the local paper because of our farm, we would have assumed that it would have been a report of our cows running through the countryside. Although our animals have been known to go for a tour here and there, it was our dedication to selling healthy, high quality beef that earned our spot in The Eganville Leader - not one but two weeks in a row!! Being acknowledged by our community is a very exciting experience. It’s created the opportu...nity for conversations with new faces, allowing us share our passion with locals over and over again. We feel so fortunate to be surrounded by people who care about their food as much as we do! Thank you for supporting our farm! #buylocal #eganville #opeongo #beef #grassfedbeef

There are A LOT of exciting things happening over here. Did you see our latest email update? If not, it’s either because you need a haircut (like Shaggy Aggie over here) or because you don’t get our newsletters! Shoot us a DM if you’d like to get an email update from us once a week. So far we’ve really enjoyed hearing from you via email, and we’d love to continue to grow those connections with you guys ... *ps- Aggie is NOT a Longhorn (although she’s made a good effort) she’s a Highland who should be having her calf anytime now! *pps- Google: Highland calves. You’re Welcome.

We're moving off media! Kind of. For personal, business, and little new family reasons we've decided to reduce our presence on social media. Instead we will be increasing our direct-to-customer updates over email! We'll be starting a regular newsletter to help us be more intentional with our communication. To that end, if you'd like to receive our updates please direct message us your email and we'll add you to our list. Thanks friends!

And then there were three. Has been a quiet few weeks waiting for her to come, and likely another few quiet weeks as we settle into each other's lives. But happy to say our little family has grown quite a bit so far this year :)
