VOICEBOX: Opera In Concert congratulates the Honorees for their ongoing contribution to the arts worldwide and applauds all those who helped make the event such a great success. A special shout out to Barbara Hannigan and Michael Schade, both alumni of VOICEBOX: Opera in Concert presentations early in their careers. Barbara can be heard brilliantly as Armida on our Naxos recording of Handel’s Rinaldo, co-starring with Laura Whalen, Kimberly Barber, and Marion Newman, conducted by Kevin Mallon.

During difficult times, friends stay connected...and what better way to connect than with the gift of music. Enjoy our VOICEBOX: Opera in Concert musical adventure with great Canadian artists right in your home. Picture it: A crew of ne'er-do-wells sets off to found a city where everyone is free to do as they please. Vice and iniquity rule the streets of Mahagonny and soon the word spreads and the population booms. But the sun sets on all good things and excess leads to ...tragedy. It all comes to a head when a crew of lumberjacks show up in the midst of a financial crisis for the city. There's whisky, women, and even a hurricane: all great ingredients for a work such as this. THE RISE AND FALL OF THE CITY OF MAHAGONNY by Kurt Weill with a libretto by his genius partner, Bertolt Brecht recently celebrelated its 90th anniversary.
