Drug seizure by Orillia OPP included disturbingly packaged cannabis edible products. Packaging closely resembles readily available, popular candy. Parents are cautioned to be aware of these cannabis products in our community as they could easily be mistaken for candy. On February 9, just before 10:00pm, officers observed a vehicle being driven on Wyandotte Street by an individual who was suspected of having a suspended driver's licence. The vehicle was stopped and the driver... was arrested for driving while under suspension. A passenger, who was recognized by the officers, was found to be in contravention of release conditions and was also arrested. Searches resulted in the seizure of quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, illicit cannabis, oxycodone and Canadian currency. As a result, the driver, a 29-year-old of Gravenhurst, has been charged with: Driving while under suspension; Possess license while prohibited; Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid; Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid; Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine; Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine; Possession of illicit cannabis; Distribute illicit cannabis; and Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000. A citizen brought a World War II era mortar to the Northumberland OPP today. Officers contained the area because of the potential risks. If you find a military device, such as flares, military ordnance or explosives, DO NOT TOUCH. These devices still pose a risk of detonation and can be highly unstable. Remove yourself from the location and contact your local police agency. The OPP and Canadian Armed Forces have trained experts who will attend and safely remove it for you. #NthldOPP

This #PorchPirate runs a Mickey Mouse operation Can you help identify the suspect? On October 28, a resident on Bonnieglen Farm Blvd in Caledon advised they arrived home and observed a package that was delivered and left on the porch. The complainant went inside the house and returned to retrieve the package just a few minutes later, however, the package was no longer there. After reviewing their security footage, the following was observed: ... At approximately 4:43 p.m., an older model blue Honda Civic was seen travelling northbound on Bonnieglen Farm Boulevard. The vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway, reversed and came to a stop in front of the complainant's residence. The lone driver was then seen exiting the vehicle, approach the porch and steal the package valued at approximately $200. Suspect Description: male, tan complexion, short hair, beard; wearing a face mask, a red Mickey Mouse jacket, a yellow shirt underneath, dark coloured pants, dark coloured shoes, several gold rings and a bracelet. If you recognize the suspect or have any security footage that could assist with this investigation, please call Caledon OPP at 905-584-2241 or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous at 1-800-222-8477. As online shopping continues to grow, the opportunity for theft has risen significantly. Here are some findings to consider about porch pirates that could potentially help you protect your deliveries: Most thefts occur during daylight hours - the theft of a package takes only seconds and usually involves one individual on foot, and a lookout in a vehicle nearby. Package location is important - packages closest to the road and visible from the street are stolen more frequently. Larger size packages are targeted more often. Suspect behaviour - after taking the package, most thieves use a vehicle to flee the scene. In some cases, a trunk or a vehicle door is left open to facilitate a quick escape. How to protect your deliveries: Encourage your neighbours to watch for your deliveries and do the same for them; Track deliveries online; Remove packages from your porch quickly once they arrive; Consider getting a BoxLock for your online deliveries to keep the packages safe; Request to have packages delivered elsewhere if you are away from home for an extended period of time. #CaledonOPP #CrimeStoppers

If you're planning on heading out for Halloween this year, make sure to follow a few safety tips to make the evening a momorable one for parents/guardians and children. HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS: Children under the age of nine should be accompanied by an adult or responsible older child. Never trick or treat alone, go with a group or adult.... Always let parents/guardians know which route you will be taking and what time you are likely to return home. Choose face paint instead of masks (masks restrict your ability to see potential hazards). Never go inside a house to get your treats. Maintain your safe social distancing practices. Carry a flashlight and use reflective materials to increase visibility to drivers. Trick or treat in familiar areas that are well lit. Never criss-cross the street or between parked vehicles. Cross at crosswalks or intersections. Walk, never run and use sidewalks if available. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the side of the road facing oncoming traffic. Only go to homes that clearly indicate they are participating in the event (outdoor lights on, lit pumpkins or displayed Halloween decorations). Always have your treats checked by an adult before eating them. Even though there may be fewer trick or treaters this year than in previous years, motorists are reminded to stay alert and drive with caution. Reduce distractions, such as cell phones or loud music, and never drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Remember that costumes can limit a child's vision and they may not be able to see your vehicle. A safe Halloween is everyone's responsbility. If you observe suspicious activity, call OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Happy Halloween! #NthldOPP

The Child & Youth Advocacy Centre Simcoe/Muskoka (CYAC) of Simcoe Muskoka is coming to the Nottawasaga OPP Detachment area community in the near future. The CYAC received funding to create a mobile unit to enable forensic investigations involving children/youth to occur closer to home. This means that the children/youth and families will no longer have to drive to Barrie or Orillia. The CYAC is in the process of securing safe, child-friendly locations across Simcoe Muskoka w...here forensic investigations can be conducted. Members of the CYAC presented to members of the Nottawasaga OPP earlier today to introduce the new mobile unit. This victim-centred trauma-focused approach creates a safe and neutral place for children and youth to tell their story. #NottyOPP #MentalHealthMatters
