PRESS CONFERENCE: SURVEY OF FRONT-LINE STAFF IN LTC HOMES ABOUT WHY LARGE COVID-19 OUTBREAKS ARE SPREADING REVEALS MAJOR BREAKDOWNS IN INFECTION CONTROL & CARE ...From mid-November to mid December 2020 the Ontario Health Coalition surveyed more than 80 staff in different long-term care homes with large outbreaks about why COVID-19 is spreading in their homes. In visceral terms, staff describe current working, care and infection control conditions on the ground in the homes right now. Long-term care homes surveyed ranged from homes with outbreaks of 10 to more than 150 staff and residents infected with COVID-19. Here, the survey was released in an online press conference with representatives from SEIU Healthcare, Unifor, and CUPE, who represent workers and health professionals in the homes affected. These unions as well as ONA helped distribute the survey to their members at those homes. See more

We asked our Board Liaison to get us more info Is John. Good evening everyone, ... I have had an opportunity to find out more information in regards to the questions that were asked a couple weeks ago about pensions. Please see the e mail bellow. Janel also wanted me to let you know that although the cost has gone up, and we aren't in favour of it, we have no control over cost. If you opt out of the benefits you can never re-join the plan. and you will never get them that cheap privately. OPT doesn't have any say in the cost its totally the treasury Board Secretariat. I hope this helps and everyone is staying well during COVID. In Solidarity, Dave Doran Hello Janel, As per our conversation I wanted to let you know that it is the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) along with the insurer are the sole decision makers when it comes to raising the rate of the OUP Legacy Plan. (Emergency Out-of-Country coverage, Global Medical Assistance and Catastrophic Drug Coverage) The OPTrust pension plan itself does not set the rates and does not have anything to do with increasing the rates that are to be paid but they do administer the benefit and as well share the information regarding the benefits, including increases, to the retirees. TBS, along with the insurance company, set the rates and informs OPTrust so that the plan can share with the retirees on their behalf. Please see the link below explaining the increase: https://www.optrust.com//Post-Retirement%20Benefits%20Prem If you have any other questions please let me know. Thank you.
