Remember when we asked you what movements or exercises you struggle with? Now is the perfect time to work on them! The one legged deadlift is a technical move for a number of reasons- it involves core strength, stability, balance, coordination and a whole lot of concentration.... A great way to practice the hinge pattern needed for this movement is with a dowel, which you probably don't have at home. But, what do you have (or we sure hope you have!) is a broom! If possible, you can even unscrew the brush end of the broom and just use the broom stick. From standing, hold the broom stick behind your back so that it is touching the base of your spine, between your shoulder blades and the back of your head. While keeping your core tight, push your hips back towards the wall and hinge forward. Ensure you're not arching your back. Keep constant connection between the broom stick and your body as you stand back up. Initiate the movement with your hips.

#FormCheckFriday Chances are, you probably don't have a cable system in your home. But, most of us have resistance bands laying around the house, hidden in closets or stuffed in the bottom of our gym back. Get 'em out for some tricep extensions! Secure your resistance band to a door, doorknob, hook, etc. You can either do these standing or half kneeling (if using a doorknob or something relatively low, for instance).... Grip the band with both hands using a neutral grip. Turn your body away from the door/hook/etc. Keep your elbows close to your head as you fully extend your arms out above you. When your triceps are fully extended, hold for a count of one while squeezing your triceps. Return to the starting position by bending your elbows and releasing the tension in the band. In lieu of a dumbbell, you could use a jug of laundry detergent for a half kneeling, single arm shoulder press!... If you find the weight isn't challenging enough, increase your reps per set to really fire your muscles up. Start with 3 sets of 12, or 3 sets of 20 if using a lighter weight. @donovan.n.wagner

#FormCheckFriday While gyms are closed, we are going to be working out at home! A great (an affordable) investment is an at-home pull up bar! You can purchase one online and have it delivered right to your door (so that you can continue practicing social distancing).... When performing pull and chins up, there are a few queues to keep in mind... Roll your shoulder blades down and back. Think about pulling your chest to the bar. Look up ever so slightly to avoid your head ducking down between your shoulders. Think elbows to hips as you pull. @donovan.n.wagner

This past week has us feeling all sorts of ways. We cannot control anything but our own reaction to a situation and, as such, it's important that we manage any negative feelings and emotions we may be experiencing. Start by acknowledging how you feel. Your feelings are not right or wrong, they just are. You are allowed to feel the way you do. Consider taking some time to meditate; it's an excellent tool to help us get through stressful times.... If you've never meditated before, don't worry, there's no "one size fits all" method. Do whatever feels good! We recommend trying something like this... Find a comfortable space in your home and sit down. Maybe it's on a chair with your feet on the floor, or on your bed with your legs crossed. Take a deep breath in, hold for the count of three, and close your eyes as you slowly exhale. With your eyes closed, continue breathing in for the count of six, holding for three and exhaling for nine. You will feel your heart rate slow, your body feel lighter and your mind become quieter. You may also like to try a guided meditation on Spotify or YouTube, or play some gentle music in the background. Whatever you choose, this is time for you to be with yourself. Enjoy it!

These are stressful times. While we can't control what the world around us does, we can control our reaction to it. One of the things we can do is prioritize our mental health. As we spend more time at home, feelings of stress and anxiety may start creeping in and it's important for us to manage those feelings. Exercise is one of the best things we can do for ourselves right now. Even though our gym is closed, we can still move our bodies! ... If you can't make it outdoors for a walk or hike, try this at-home workout! Perform each exercise for 3 sets of 15 reps. Squats- You can do these body weight or grab something heavy in your home and hold at chest level (a bag full of canned goods, your dog, your child...make it fun!) Bulgarian split squats- In lieu of a bench, place your foot behind you on a couch or chair. Laying lateral leg raises- If you have a resistance band that you can place above your knees, even better! Glute bridges- You can do these body weight or place something weighted across your hips. If body weight, do these in sets of 30.

As we fatigue, we often start leading with our head on the ascent. Ensure that your head and neck maintain neutral at all time.... Strong lats. Remembering to keep your lats engaged is crucial. Think about trying to prevent someone from tickling your armpit! Proud chest. Who knows what this exercise is called? A bear crawl or bear hold, as shown here, is incredibly challenging for your core. It doesn't look like much, does it? Try it out and let us know how you feel the next morning ... Start in a quadruped position with your wrists directly underneath your shoulders and your knees directly underneath your hips. Your core should be engaged and your spine should be in a neutral position. With control, lift your knees one inch off the ground. Be sure to keep your back flat and your abs engaged. Keep these tips in mind next time you're working on your one arm row... To start, kneel your right leg on a bench, keeping a 90 degree angle in your hip and through knee. Place your right hand on the bench, tuck your pelvis underneath you and brace your core. Start with the dumbbell on the ground. Grip it with your left hand, roll your shoulder down and back, and contract your lats and back as you pull the weight upwards. Think wrist to hip as you are pulling to avoid over rowing. Control the movement as you lower the weight towards the ground until your elbow is fully extended. Complete all your reps on one side before switching to the other! #FormCheckFriday TRX rows are a great way to challenge your core and back strength! Do you incorporate them into your strength training? When performing TRX rows, keep this tips in mind!... Set your body in a straight line, as if you were in a vertical plank position. Tuck your bum underneath you, keep your back flat and core tight. The further back you place your feet, the easier it will be. Ensure your palms stay facing each other throughout the lift. To begin the movement, roll your shoulder blades back and down. Pull your torso towards your hands keeping your elbows close to your body. Think "wrist to hips". Keep your core tight, while your hands and wrists remain neutral. Lower your body back to the starting position and repeat. We're starting our week off with a lower body work out! What about you? A great way to activate your glutes is through use of resistance bands. Shown here is a lateral walk! Another great option is a banded hip abduction. Sit on a bench with your knees at a 90' angle.... Hinge at the hip and lean forward. Push your knees out against the band while keeping your core tight. Do this for 10-20 reps, depending on your band! If you have a hard time engaging your glutes during workouts, start with some resistance band moves to get them firing!
