Our mission is to redefine what PHYSICAL THERAPY is and can be. This includes: Spending one on one time with each individual to identify the root cause of the pain or issue. Using a global movement and mobility based approach to screen and determine the causes of the issue. Relying on ACTIVE rehab, and not using modalities as a primary means of treatment.... Taking time to EDUCATE clients on the musculoskeletal system, pain, movement patterns and habits, maintaining joint health and joint mobility etc. Developing PHYSICAL competence and confidence through MOVEMENT and STRENGTH. Empowering individuals to take CONTROL of their own health. Addressing other factors such as LIFESTYLE, stress, and ways to address pain. Biological, psychological, and social factors are all potential contributors to someone’s state of health. Helping develop new habits, behaviours, and ways to attain physical and mental wellness. Providing a place to build connection, explore movement, and prioritize health. Helping develop PHYSICAL FREEDOM and providing LONG TERM and sustainable strategies to live a healthy life and keep moving. Physical therapy is in desperate need of a change, and our mission is to help set the new standard. #physicaltherapy #physiotherapy #movement #rehab #strength #strengthtraining #training #functionaltraining #mentalhealth #health #fitness #ottawa #613 #myottawa #toronto #wellness #lifestyle #healthy #healthylifestyle #fit #medicine #exercise #pain @optimize.paul @optimize.tommy @thefootcollective @optimize.yulia See more

Work on breathing better Breathing is one of the low hanging fruits when it comes to health and wellness. Something so simple can be very powerful and serve as an effective tool for helping keep your physical and mental health in check. Breathing is the ultimate pattern. Why have many people found themselves so disconnected from their breathing?... Prolonged stress, emotional factors, poor/static positions (sitting all day on a computer), mobility issues, failure to acknowledge or be mindful of breathing...these are some of the reasons. Here are two simple things to keep in mind to start getting your breathing on point: 1 Nasal breathe: Work towards nasal breathing as your go-to breathing pattern. At rest, at work, while driving, working out etc. This is beneficial for many reasons, but will immediately contribute to better blood oxygenation (Bohr effect). 2 Mind your pattern: Work towards diaphragmatic breathing as your go-to breathing pattern, all of the time. This goes hand in hand with nasal breathing. Initiate each breath from the inside out. Drive air in using your diaphragm, instead of your neck, shoulders, upper chest. These are two simple things to work towards. Simple does not necessarily mean easy. Getting your breathing on point doesn’t happen overnight, but the good thing is that you are in control of it. You don’t need equipment, all you need is awareness and a commitment to being a better breather. The positive benefits will reinforce things from there. #breathing #breathe #yoga #mind #mentalhealth #mindfulness #anatomy #workout #health #fitness #fit #running #fitfam #wellness #physicaltherapy #therapy #stress #core #relax #healthy #habits #lifestyle #healthylifestyle #movement #mobility #ottawa #run #crossfit #tips See more

Upper body mobility The thoracic bridge is a good test of upper body mobility. It specifically focused on thoracic rotation, wrist extension, and overall shoulder mobility/strength. This version involves rocking into further wrist extension, which loads it up nicely. Start by just exposing yourself to the position before you try the rocking.... Push the ground away from you and stay strong through the shoulder. Externally rotate through the ground to wind the shoulder into a stable position so you don’t cave in under your own body weight. #shoulders #core #workout #mobility #functionaltraining #training #movement #challenge #tips #spine #posture #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #gym #flexibility #stretching #crossfit #yoga #fitness #fitfam #fit #strength #ottawa #613 #health #wellness See more

Throwing is a master test for the shoulder (and body overall) Throwing is deeply ingrained in our DNA. The ability to physically launch rocks, spears and other projectiles is one of the main reasons why humans have been the best hunters on the planet from an evolutionary biology perspective. Unlike any other apes or mammals, humans have the ability to throw things at tremendous speeds and over huge distances. From a functional biomechanics standpoint, the ability to t...hrow puts the shoulder and body to the test: Mobility Throwing requires adequate ROM at the glenohumeral joint (ball and socket), scapulothoracic joint, and thoracic spine. A throw will expose your shoulder to multiple planes of physiological motion in an instant, making it a true test of functional mobility. Patterning/slings Throwing also demands good overall integrity and connection from a movement standpoint. Assuming perfect mobility, it is now a matter of how well someone sequences their movement to produce a whipping effect of the arm at release. Initiating movement at the midsection via the oblique sling subsystems in a proximal to distal fashion is a key part of being able to throw with power/speed. Throwing is an intricate human pattern that reveals what someone’s shoulder and body can do. It can be used as a higher level screen for the shoulder. #shoulder #human #physicaltherapy #therapy #pilates #strengthtraining #training #trainer #physiotherapy #movement #strength #mobility #crossfit #workout #anatomy #functionaltraining #ottawa #fitness #science #throw #baseball #football #fitfam #exercise #health #wellness #pitching #core #toronto See more
