Options Youth Program 19.02.2021

The OPtions Youth Program is devoted to equipping youth with the skills required to make a successful transition into the labour market. We aim to create valuable employees in Halifax Regional Municipality through supportive employment training and experiential learning. Over the last nineteen years, the Saint Mary’s University Entrepreneurship Centre has worked with hundreds of young adults, helping them transition into the labour market and further education. The Program: ...We are currently recruiting 13 youth (age 15-30) participants for our 8-week program, from January 27 to March 20, 2020. Participants attend daily workshops at Saint Mary’s University, Monday to Friday, from 930am-430pm and are paid minimum wage ($11.55/hour) for 35 hours per week for the duration of the program. Workshops include: Resume Building, Money Management, Entrepreneurship, Interview Prep, Goal Setting, Personal Branding, Stress Management, Time Management, Innovation, Healthy Living, First Aid & WHMIS, Customer Service /Sales Awards In 2016, the Options Youth Program was named the overall winner for North America in the Global Best Awards (International Education Business Partnership Network), and in 2014 received a national prize for Multi-barriered Youth Innovation during the National Youth Employment Innovation Awards sponsored by the National Youth Employment Coalition and First Work. Requirements All participants must have: - Between the ages of 15-30 - Not currently in receipt of EI benefits - Not currently working, currently attending school, - Be ready and willing to work in full-time employment - and have at least one of the following barriers to employment: High school non-completion Aboriginal ancestry Street Involvement Visible or ethnic minority Low levels of reading and numeracy Health/drug and/or alcohol-related problems Contact with justice, child or social assistance systems Disability Lone (single) parent Language barriers Residence in rural or remote locations Homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless Lack of social supports: family, friends or community supports Poor self-management and/or behaviour management skills Application Process Please contact the Project Manager for the application form.
