Oolong teas fall between Green and Black teas on the oxidation scale. While this may seem an insignificant variable, it yields a dizzying array of tea styles and flavors. Literally translated, Oolong means "Black Dragon". The traditional home of oolong is China (in Guangdong and Fujian provinces) and Taiwan. These are the origins which set the standard for oolong production, which is one of the most time consuming, demanding styles to create. Some of the more famous examples ...include Fancy Formosa Silver Tip, WuYi rock oolongs, Tung Ting, Ti Guan Yin and Pouchong. A number of companies have gone to great lengths in recent years to market oolong teas (under the names Wulong or Wu-Long) as weight loss teas. There is no scientific evidence to suggest that oolong teas are any more effective than other teas in aiding weight loss. ALL teas have the same benefits!

Green tea is often lauded for the many amazing health benefits that it touts. However, in Asia, the birthplace of tea, green tea is widely enjoyed not only for medicinal effects, but also for the many dimensions of flavor that can be experienced through the different varieties. In China, there are nearly as many varieties of green tea as there are towns. With so many varieties and styles (and ways to steep them), you're sure to find a green tea that can easily be part of your healthy lifestyle, as well as daily sensory enjoyment. Reward your body and your taste buds!

Shou Mei - White tea is the most subtle of all the varieties of tea, using only the newest tea leaves from each bush with a minimal amount of processing. Considered by some connoisseurs to be the height of gourmet tea, white tea is just beginning to make an impact on Western culture. Much of this newfound popularity is a result of initial health studies on white tea (although, as mentioned in previous lessons, it's now being shown that all teas are part of a healthy lifestyle).
