My father comes from Orangedale - long ago - maybe in the 1920s. His name is Neil Angus MacNeill - his only sibling is John Thomas and his mother is Mary (nee M...cLean (the father died early and I know little of him). I believe my father is 5th generation Canadian with ancestry from Eriskay (Barra) My father told me stories and mysteries of Cape Breton and I have wanted to go there for a long time. And maybe I will soon - now that I'm retired.. But i'm wondering... is there an affordable hotel where I could stay for a month or so? Either that or a place where I can park a sleepable vehicle. Thank you.
I grew up in the 50's and early 60s spending summers on McGuniess Island...I understand it was sold to a couple from New York... Does anyone have any information or can share pictures of the island ??
I am Looking for any history of the Early Orangedale--It is my understanding that Neil. S. McKinnon was the first settler there and he was the postmaster for ma...ny years. He is my Husband's Great Grandfather and we would love to know if there is more information out there about him. I can only find a history of the railroad from that area, but I am sure there must be something about the very early settlers?? Thank you, if you can assist me in this matter. See more
