Information sheet on unsanctioned gatherings We received an information sheet from Councillor Squire regarding information about social gatherings during the COVID 19 restrictions. Sneak thieves Sneak thieves are still about. If you do park your car outside, be sure it is locked. It is also recommended that you bring your garage door opener indoors so that it doesn't become a target for a thief. [ 56 more words ] http://orchardparksherwoodforestratepayers.ca/20//21/2516/

The City plans to open the Sherwood Forest Park sometime in August. They still need to do various inspections of the work and they want the turf grass to get established, hopefully with some rainy weather. New trees will be planted in the fall. If the timeline slips, we will let you know. http://orchardparksherwoodforestratepayers.ca//update-on-/

Gypsy Moth Caterpillars This seems to be a banner year for Gypsy Moths. A mature Gypsy Moth caterpillar is approximately 6 cm long, and can be identified by the pairs of dots along its back five pairs of blue dots, followed by six pairs of red dots. The caterpillars feed mainly on deciduous trees and shrubs. Their favourite foods include oak, maple, birch and serviceberry. Update from the OPSFR Executive We have postponed the BBQ and Annual General Meeting for the Orchard Park Sherwood Forest Ratepayers until further notice. Hopefully we can arrange something in the fall. We will also delay the collection of dues. Please note that the Next Door mailing you may have received is not something that the Ratepayers have initiated. A coyote was sighted chasing a deer through Rollingwood Park this week. It did not catch the deer. The coyote then passed between houses at 90 and 94 Rollingwood onto the street and went on its way. You should be cautious about having family pets outdoors unsupervised or unleashed. Although coyotes are usually about at dawn and dusk, they are also about at other times. Here is a resource on Coyotes in the City of London. http://orchardparksherwoodforestratepayers.ca/?p=2478

A note from Brescia: Dear Neighbours; As you know, Brescia values our close and friendly relationship with the neighbourhood. I am writing to assure you that even as we move to a modified services model, members of the community are welcome to enjoy our beautiful campus, although our buildings will be closed to the public. However, I do have one favour to ask. [ 102 more words ] http://orchardparksherwoodforestratepayers.ca//a-note-fro/

An update via Councillor Squire: Runnymede Crescent and Abbey Rise will be reconstructed this upcoming summer due to their current road condition. As per Council direction the City will be installing new sidewalks in the boulevard along the entire length of these roadways. To minimize tree impacts the sidewalk will be installed on one side only. While not ideal the City will also be installing the sidewalk immediately behind the curb to further minimize tree impacts, however this still requires a large number of trees to be removed. City Council is considering its next FOUR years of budget. A good summary can be found at pages 4 to 9 of the budget at: You will see operating budget will be $1 B by 2021 with 65% of that supported by property taxes. Note on page 8 that the largest expenditure is for police services (about 18% of the municipal share of your tax bill). [ 468 more words ] http://orchardparksherwoodforestratepayers.ca//city-4-yea/

Neighbors are collecting boots, socks, coats, mitts, and hats to help keep the people who are homeless stay warm. Blankets, tarps, and small tents are also helpful. Anything to keep them warm and dry. Items that have been used and are in good condition are welcome. 519 Pursuit builds relationships with those they support and find out what their specific needs are and create care packages for them that they deliver to them on the streets. An update on the temporary road closure at Wychwood and Scarlett - Should only be a few more days. The base coat of asphalt is down and the temporary curbs are installed. The contractor didn’t want traffic on the fresh pavement for a few days. There is only about a day and half of onsite cleanup. Today is likely a washout because of the rain but they should be done towards the end of the week. http://orchardparksherwoodforestratepayers.ca//update-on-/

Giving Tuesday Today is GIVING TUESDAY. Consider joining a number of residents who have already made a contribution to the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority for projects in the Medway Valley Heritage Forest Environmentally Significant Area (ESA). This opportunity comes with the City committing to improve access to the Valley by building a new boardwalk and swale (to reduce the effects of runoff) from the entrance to the ESA at Longbow and Wychwood this spring.
