This week’s show is based on a collection of whimsical poems and children’s illustrations brought to life in the new Beat by Beat Press musical, ‘Could I Hug A Cactus?’ But when else have we brought whimsical, childhood stories to the stage? ... Robert Munsch is among one of the most beloved children’s authors of all-time. Some of his most popular stories include The Paperbag Princess, Something Good, I Love You Forever, Jonathan Clean Up Your Room, Mud Puddle, Murmel Murmel Murmel, Mortimer, I Have To Go!, Angela’s Airplane, Stephanie’s Ponytail, Thomas’s Snowsuit, Purple Green and Yellow, 50 Below Zero, and more! These stories make for charming, hilarious, and heartfelt stage adaptations. We all know and love the variety of exaggerated expression, familiar fairy tale tropes, use of repetition, and character voices stitched through his stories. Often his stories are based upon children who have written to him he turns his reader’s stories into brand new ones. In doing so, he keeps the child at the heart of the storytelling and are known to challenge the typical stereotypes in charming, full of life and somewhat obstinate ways. 5 years ago tonight! On this night on February 13, 2016, we were celebrating our 25th Anniversary with a gala celebration on the mezzanine of the Covent Garden Market. We were grateful to see an array of faces from Original Kids' past and present. We enjoyed a costume parade, wonderful displays, a coffee house, live performances, a short film, and many more. We are so incredibly thankful to the staff and the army of volunteers that helped make this evening come alive!... Five years later, our 30th anniversary doesn't quite look how we would hope to celebrate considering the current circumstances. But despite pivoting and rethinking our programming, our mission still remains the same: to celebrate the lives of young people through the arts in a safe and challenging environment. It's our all-time favourite spooky Halloween show, TEENAGE NIGHT OF LIVING HORROR! It's such a favourite that the show has been mounted at Original Kids four times over our 30 year history! Howie, Louise, Gary, and Phoebe are in charge of Zombie Night, the annual senior class pa...rty. They locate an abandoned farmhouse by an old graveyard. Actually, the house was once occupied by the creepy, crawly Dr. Thanatos, who tried to re-animate the dead (gulp!). Vivian and Anne show up, determined to destroy the party. (They’re sore losers who wanted a sock hop instead.) Enter a grim farmer who warns the kids that it’s dangerous to stay.
