House Finch friends. Photos by Tanya Clark. House Finches are small-bodied finches with fairly large beaks and somewhat long, flat heads. The wings are short, making the tail seem long by comparison. Many finches have distinctly notched tails, but the House Finch has a relatively shallow notch in its tail. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/House_Finch/id#

Thanks everyone for taking part in Trivia Night! About 40 people took part, and answered ID questions on plants, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds. There were even bonus marks for scientific names. A big thank you to Toby Rowland for putting the trivia together and sharing his great photos and video! Next event is February 3, with a presentation by Toronto Zoom. Info here: http://orillianaturalistsclub.ca/ (and everything will be emailed to our list in advance on how to join, etc).
