ORKA Performance 19.01.2021

We need to normalize talking about the menstrual cycle with our female athletes. In my opinion this is a matter of health and performance. There can be severe ramifications for pushing this topic to the side. Not all female athletes are comfortable talking about this so creating a contact point within your team that everyone is comfortable chatting to is extremely valuable. It’s beyond important that we, as coaches understand what these athletes are going through. It’s al...so important to note, that every individual will be different. @sammoorestrong does a brilliant job on @coachpatrickwood ’s podcast talking all things menstrual cycle. She makes some brilliant points. We don’t need to be using the menstrual cycle as a crutch but more so understanding your individual symptoms and how behavioural/nutritional changes can protect us from more severe consequences such as an ACL rupture. And yes, menstrual is spelt wrong in the title! Couldn't change this on illustrator after I exported the JPEGS #period #menstrualcycle #femaleathlete #fastandfemale #athlete See more

A little glimpse inside a testing session for @alex.ochoa07 at 6 months post op ACL. We have developed a robust testing system that leaves us with 21 different data metrics across the spectrum of the rehab. Through these tests, some will stay for the entire rehab and some will be phased in as the athlete progresses. For example, we won’t add a loaded trap bar decel until ~7 months post op, if all other tests are looking good. The problem we have with ACL rehabs currently ...is that our testing protocols are not robust enough to make an educated decision on whether or not this athlete is prepared. Later this week, we will release some data of a non S&C based rehab/return to sport and an integrated support team athlete. This will paint the picture on the importance of a proper team based rehab model. Now, let’s face the reality. Cost barrier to very expensive technology can be a real challenge. Not every gym/clinic can find money to purchase this type of technology. There is ways that we get a relatively clear picture without it. This comes down to the systems you have in place. Challenge your business, clinic, and gym to continue to push for systems that will return the athlete as quickly and SAFELY as possible. Our testing protocols utilize the @vald_performance Force Frame and also the @hawkindynamics Force Plates, alongside some track based testing and psychological readiness testing. If any of you have questions or comment, chuck them below. Let’s dive into it. #acl #rehab #aclrehab #yyc #yycnow #calgary #athlete #knee #surgery #kneesurgery #neverhuntalone See more

How are you addressing the psychological aspect of a return to sport? We like to use subjective questionnaires as we approach closer to a return to ensure that our programming prepared them sufficiently enough from a psychological stand point. This needs to be done through properly executed, well thought out progressions. Obviously supported through objective testing. ... Let’s start 2021 off right, with a MAJOR announcement. We want to welcome Keenan MacDougall to our coaching staff. We are absolutely delighted to have Keenan join ORKA Performance, once the restrictions are lifted in the gym. Here is what our Owner/ Director of Performance, Taylor Evernden had to say about Keenan joining us. This is a massive step forward for us as an organization. Keenan is someone who exemplifies where we want this industry to go; he’s educated, has b...een in the game as a pro in two different sports, and he’s an amazing coach. I have no doubt that our athletes will learn so much from Keenan both from his S&C knowledge as well as his playing experience. They always say to surround yourself with people smarter than yourself, and this fits that mould perfectly. I truly believe Keenan is one the bright minds in this country and I am delighted to have him on board. Stay tuned for more announcements and progressions as we ride through 2021. #strength #yyc #yycnow #football #bobsled #coach #ORKA #nextlevel #neverhuntalone
