Today's spotlight is Vincent Wong, PhD student and team lecturer at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University and doctoral fellow at the Nathanson Centre. Vincent was recently named as a finalist for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation's 2021 doctoral scholarship competition. Vincent's dissertation research: Racial Capitalism and Canada's Dreamers, situates the exclusions of undocumented youth from education in Canada within the colonial history of Canadian immigration law... and its coding, management and justification of a racial hierarchy of labour. The research explores how increasingly restrictionist immigration and education policies work to block undocumented youth from education and upward mobility in order to create a surplus pool of "informal" racialized labour that operates in parallel to "formal" temporary foreign worker programs. Congratulations, Vincent!
