Happy Friday! It’s that time again. the snowy weather is here! The Oshawa Wellness Centre wants to make sure you are shovelling safely this winter. Keep reading to hear some of the best tips and tricks from our Chiropractors when shovelling:... 1. Don’t let the snow pile up, it will be easier for you to shovel the small loads of snow as opposed to a full day of heavy snow piled up 2. Pick the right shovel (preferably light weight) 3. Push the snow, do not throw it 4. Take frequent breaks, give your legs a little shake and repeat 5. Bend your knees, let your arm and leg muscles do most of the work. Not your back. 6. Stay hydrated although it is cold outside, your body still needs lots of fluids 7. Take it slow by resting when you feel fatigued or out of breath 8. Cool down by taking a walk or stretching out any tense muscles Have a great weekend & stay safe!

We would like to introduce our new Physiotherapist Shashi Panchal. Sash was born and raised in Tiny Town, Ontario (yes it’s a real place located past Barrie, near Midland)! He received his Physiotherapy degree at Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. His treatment approach involves a combination of manual therapy and corrective exercises to help his patients achieve results. Those who sleep less, get sick more often, and are more likely to suffer from mental illness. Make sure to keep a regular schedule and prioritize getting at least 7 hoursof sleepper night. Eat the Rainbow- Vegetables are full of vitamins, minerals and key nutrients needed fo...r a healthy immune system. Try to get at least 6 servings of fruits and vegetables per day and aim for a variety of colours. Manage Stress- Adding in daily rituals that promote relaxation can be incredibly beneficial. Consider adding in a coupleminutesdaily of deep breathing, meditation, walking, journalling or any self-care activity that helps you relax. Welcoming the newest addition to our clinic team... our Physiotherapist Lindsay Bays. Lindsay was born and raised in Whitby. Her strong athletic background, combined with a keen interest in the human body and how it moves, led her to pursue a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology at McMaster University. She then went on to complete her Master’s degree of Science in Physiotherapy at the University of Toronto, graduating in 2012. She has a particular passion for treating the at...hletic and paediatric populations. Her approach to treatment is very hands-on, with a focus on restoring function and re-training proper body mechanics. GARDENING TIPS: 1. Warm up before you start; gardening can be a real workout so warming up your muscles before you start is always helpful 2. Lift with support; lift in a more ergonomically supported manner you can begin by squatting and not bending at your waist... 3. Take frequent breaks; it’s easy to lose track of time when you are outside enjoying yourself, make sure to bring a bottle of water with you 4. Use support from kneelers, chairs, or knee pads with added cushion; standing up and getting back down can be challenging, using the following can help reduce stress on your knees and back 5. Garden while standing; if bending is painful for you try to implement wall gardening 6. Bring the plants to you; raised bed gardening is a great option, as well planters that are meant to be on balconies can be helpful 7. Keep plants contained; concentrating on growing plants in deep containers can make gardening much easier 8.
