Some Oshawa Councillors put safety first for you and your family. Councillors Neal, Marimpietri, Giberson and Nicholson recognize putting cost savings through before citizen safety is simply the wrong thing to do. For that, we say thanks. Councillors, we see how you fought for firefighters over the past week. ... We are grateful for your commitment to listening to front line firefighters; we are grateful for your willingness to put our safety at the forefront of your deliberations. You get it. You value our safety, and the safety of our greater Oshawa community above all else. We want to say thank you. So, this Holiday Season, on behalf of all Oshawa Firefighters, please send a quick note of thanks to Councillors John Neal, Tito-Dante Marimpietri, Derek Giberson and Brian Nicholson. These Councillors reflect the very best of civic leadership and we are very grateful.

This morning our members stopped by Lakeridge Health Hospital in Oshawa to deliver toys for kids who are spending the holidays in the hospital. We weren’t able to have Santa join us in delivering the gifts inside the hospital due to COVID19, but some of the exceptional staff met us outside to bring the toys inside and spread some holiday cheer! There was absolutely no way we would let #COVID19 stop our annual stocking program for our youngest residents. We look forward to b...ringing Santa back next year! Oshawa Fire Services were able to quickly extinguish a house fire on Burke Street on Thursday afternoon, just before 1:30. When the arriving crews arrived at t...he fire, they could see smoke coming out of the house. Oshawa Fire Chief Derrick Clark said, No occupants were in the home when fire crews arrived, and no injuries to report, said Clark. Crews did an exceptional job making entry and knocking this fire down very quickly. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but the fire chief said the fire looks to have started in the kitchen area of the home and spread into the living room. The fire chief also addresses the lack of working smoke alarms in the home and stresses his concern. I would like to remind everyone to make sure you have working smoke alarms and practice your familys home escape plan, two ways out, and never go back into a burning building.

Oshawa Firefighters 28.02.2020

Two years ago we released a report that highlighted deficiencies in how Oshawa Fire Service operates that puts public safety at risk. The risk still remains today as Oshawa City Council and the Oshawa Fire Chief have not reversed their irresponsible decision to cut staffing and front line fire trucks in the downtown core at station one. Station one is the busiest in our city and services an area with a very high fire risk, yet it has half of the frontline firefighters and fir...etrucks today then it use to have. We are committed to the safety of our community and we continue to advocate today for the reversal of this decision. Put public safety first. Put the fire truck back.
