Final few weeks to get your free MRI and participate in the Canadian Alliance for Healthy Hearts and Minds! We are excited to share with you information about a new study taking place right now in Brampton until the end of March, designed to increase our understanding of the causes of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and common cancers in the South Asian community. We are currently recruiting people of South Asian origin, between the ages of 35 to 69 years to take part ...in this project. The high risk South Asian population is presently under represented in the study. Participants will be asked to answer some questionnaires about their health, diet, and physical activity levels. They will also be invited to an assessment visit where we would collect a small blood sample, record some heart related measurements such as blood pressure, and take a magnetic resonance image (MRI) of the brain, heart, carotids and abdomen. A mobile MRI unit is at Brampton Civic Hospital now for the months of February and March. Once participants have completed the study, they will receive the results of some tests completed on their blood sample, a heart disease risk score report, and a brief 3D movie of their brain scan and beating heart taken from the MRI.
