This is a great safety reminder from the BC Office of the Fire Commissioner.

Osoyoos Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to be safe around the ponds and lakes in the area. Ice may or may not be thick enough to withstand the weight of people or animals. If someone does fall through the ice, call 9-1-1 for help. Attempting to rescue them can become very dangerous. We at OFR are trained for these emergencies but avoiding the situation is the best for everyone. The ice this time of year deserves a healthy level of respect!
Thank you to the residents of Osoyoos! We gathered one and a half truck loads of food and over $600 for the food bank. This will go a long way to help our neighbours.
Tonight is the night. Come on by our station tonight for a drive-thru drop off for the Food Bank.

We have not forgotten about our Firefighter of the Month! December's Firefighter of the month is Sarah Lambert. Sarah likes to help and finds that firefighting keeps her fit. The world of firefighting is unknown and new to her, but she enjoys learning and finds that the amazing team at OFR having been helping her along. She works in Human Resources for Spirit Ridge. Sarah is an avid snowboarder, hiker, and foodie. She loves to travel the world and meet new people. She would love to become a full-time firefighter and make this a career. She could see herself studying fire behaviour or another area of firefighting to find ways to improve the tools and techniques. She could see herself become a Training Officer as she loves to teach. Congratulations!

We are working with MARC to build reusable bags that will be handed out during our public education events. As a business owner, you may receive a phone call from them to ask if you would like to advertise on these bags. We are not asking for donations, and only businesses are being contacted. If you have any concerns, please call us at 250.495.4600 as we have heard reports of someone else phoning residents and asking for donations.
The start of December means that we have another Fire Fighter of the Month to announce. Please congratulate Karl Fichter as he is Osoyoos Fire Rescue Firefighter of the Month for November! Karl enjoys serving his community and being part of a team that can provide fire protection to the town of Osoyoos. During the day Karl works for the Town of Osoyoos looking after water and sewer. When he has free time, he enjoys working on old cars. Karl is happy with where he is and enjoys both working with the Town and Fire Department.
Movember might be over, but you can still donate to help out a great cause. We raised $1600! Thank you to everyone who made a contribution.
Thank you for the incredible donations last night! We were amazed at the generosity of the residents. With the COVID precautions in place and a large number of donations, we were much slower than anticipated in getting around to all the neighbourhoods. We were given $2616.45 in cash and two pickups full of food, with donations still being dropped off. If we missed you please reach out to the food bank and donate it directly to them. (250) 495-6581 or [email protected] Thank you for helping us help others during these difficult times. Osoyoos Food Bank
Help us help others! December 2nd we will be going throughout the community collecting donations for the Osoyoos Food Bank. We will be following all COVID19 precautions. Watch for us in your neighbourhood starting at 7pm. During this door to door campaign, we will also be asking you to check your smoke detector. If it is not functioning or expired, we will provide you with a working one to keep you safe inside your home.
Osoyoos Fire Rescue is helping to support men's health initiatives by growing mustaches. These creations help to start a converstation with others to spread the awareness of men's health. We have a team in place that is raising money to support programs and research. Have a look at what the money is going towards and donate if it is something you believe in. https://movember.com/t/osoyoos-fire-rescue?mc=1

Congratulation Wayne Jasper on being named Osoyoos Fire Rescue’s Firefighter of the Month for October! Wayne joined us in December of 2019 and brings vast knowledge and skillset into our family. He enjoys Firefighting because it is a great opportunity to serve the community. Wayne enjoys teaching and passing on his knowledge to others, and when he isn’t working with us he Volunteers with Anarchist Mountain Fire Department. He enjoys playing golf, cooking, and of course firefighting. His passion for Firefighting keeps him going, and thankfully he wants to share his knowledge and experiences with the new generation of Firefighters.
Today, 6 Firefighters spent the day learning pump operations. Here we have 1 engine drafting from our cistern and supplying the attack engine. Practice makes us better!
Here are some things to help keep yourself and your little ones safe this weekend.
