Love to my spot on gorgeous minis A couple days ago I was tagged on a FB post. A mom was upset that her child’s daycare keep sending notes asking her to provide a sunscreen for her child. She doesn’t understand why her black child needs sunscreen. It isn’t something she uses on him or herself. These posts are usually overwhelming for me, so I didn’t chyme in but I was very proud of most of the responses. *Black skin burns ... *UV does not care about your melanin *Skin cancer does not discriminate * Yes, we need sun, but sun abuse can be costly. *melanin only offers so much protection * You can’t continue to compare yourself with Poc who were born/raised/ lives in hot countries. We barely have a summer, therefore, our sun tolerance isn’t the same. * POC who lives in the sun may not use sunscreen but they protect themselves by wearing clothes that covers the body, hats or umbrellas. (Pay attention to how Africans, middle eastern and south Asian attire). The materials worn keeps them cool and protect them from the sun. *Do you ever wonder why your Caribbean family is up at the crack of dawn? To beat the sun! FYI: In Canada, sunscreen is mandatory in ECE/daycare outdoor activities. Let’s protect our babies.
