Council recently moved forward on an important strategic initiative for our community and directed staff to prepare a report detailing potential land acquisition locations and existing structures that could be repurposed into rent geared to income units. We recognize the need for affordable and subsidized housing in the community and are taking crucial steps to help find solutions.

The Province held a conference call with the distribution leadership and Ontario's Mayors to discuss the roll out of the COVID19 vaccine. This will roll out in 3 phases based on the graphic included here and is expected to take most of 2021 for the full roll out. The one request from the Province is that the local governments work with the local health unit to secure space/staff/security etc. to ensure that the healthcare staff are able to focus on actual vaccinations for Phase 3. I have communicated with Brighton staff and our health unit's Medical Officer in order to help facilitate a coordinated effort when the time comes.

It could be argued that October 8, 1804 was the most significant day in the history of the Northumberland area. The events of this day dramatically changed the ...planned settlement patterns in the newly developing colony in Upper Canada. That night the H.M.S. Speedy, traveling from York (Toronto) to the proposed district town of Newcastle for a trial, sank off Presqu'ile Point. The twenty passengers on the ship, including several of Upper Canada's most influential officials were lost and plans for the settlement in the area were then scrapped. If not for the sinking of the H.M.S. Speedy, the local area would have become developed and have no resemblance to what we have today. Update: Water should be available now to those west of Ontario Street.. there maybe some air in the pipes at first! Municipality of Brighton has been dealing with a serious water main break on Main Street for most of the day. This repair could take another three hours to complete and will continue to affect water delivery to those who live west of Ontario Street.

Effective immediately, the Ontario Government has reduced the number of people who may gather. Informal social gathering limits have been reduced to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors in all regions of Ontario. This applies to private gatherings only and doesn't include professionally staffed venues such as restaurants or movie theatres nor to places of worship. Source: Oldies 100.9
