This approach is the absolutely the correct way to develop the most skilled and injury reduced players. We in Canada have a distorted view of development approach and timelines based on the Major Jr. draft. Especially here in the West. Our insatiable appetite for games and "drive for exposure" leads to poor decisions in this regard. I believe the most important element for the most families is staying patient as your child develops and using the correct benchmarks to measur...e development success. The W/L column and the CHL Drafts are not the right measures for the vast majority of players. The irony is, these are the same factors, that cause many good prospects to quit hockey too early. My prediction is that Canada will continue to lose ground on its worlds leadership hockey status as we avoid making the appropriate changes to our development models. I believe we are ignoring the signals and will learn the hard way. The U.S. is on board with this Swedish mentality and making very good progress. The Finns are also a small country producing many very skilled players because their development model is right and they have the correct mindset about how to really build a great player.
