This summer, we were thrilled to launch a new Indigenous Youth Storytelling Program here at Assiniboine Park in partnership with the Seven Oaks School Division.... Using the Park as their classroom, students explored and learned their ancestral ways through land-based teachings. Guided by Indigenous Knowledge Keepers and facilitated by Elders, students observed more than just the trees; they learned how the animals, birds and insects live in the forest. The students journaled and recorded their experiences throughout the program. Their experiences, reflections and writings are now available to read on our website and along the trails of the riparian forest at Assiniboine Park. Learn more: https://www.assiniboinepark.ca/stories/storytelling The Indigenous Youth Storytelling Program was made possible with support from the following: Tachane Foundation Inc., Manitoba Blue Cross, Jennifer Mauro, Portage Mutual Insurance, an anonymous donor, and by a grant from The Conservation Trust, a Manitoba Climate and Green Plan Initiative, administered by Manitoba Habitat Heritage Corporation.

"We are allowing the communities to speak for themselves and let them be represented as they wish. The personal expressions vary wildly, including a sealskin s...pacesuit, a stop-motion animation of a whale hunt and a reproduction of the artist’s grandmother’s living room, titled Ajjigiingiluktaaqtugut, or We Are All Different. Great feature on Qaumajuq at the Winnipeg Art Gallery in this new coast-to-coast guide by Washington Post.
