Cold Season Immune Boosting Tips: Tip 5 If your feet are cold and your head is hot, yin and yang are reversed - and the door to illness is open - according to TCM. This is because three important meridians originate in the feet: Spleen, Liver and Kidneys. These systems are vital to the health of the immune, reproductive and digestive. If you have any issues with these, keep your feet warm during the winter months with thick socks, good boots and warm slippers. If your fe...et are always cold, take daily hot foot baths to warm them up. You can put a few slices of ginger in the water to help the heat penetrate better. The water should be hot enough so your skin is pink when you take them out. (We also have a limited supply of herbal moxa warming bath soaks that I sourced in Japan available at the clinic. PM us if you want some, they are exceptional in warming up the feet & body.). . . . . . . . . . #acupuncture #acupunctureottawa #myottawa #ottawa #westboro #coldseason #qi #healthyliving #immune #healthyliving #winter #canadianwinter #exercise #traditionalchinesemedicine #immunesystem #chinesemedicine #tcm #happyfeet #warmfeet See more

Cold Season Immune Boosting Tips: Tip4 Too much time indoors weakens the immune system.Make a plan to do some outdoor winter activities. The key is to find a winter sport that seems fun or exciting to you.Get more clothes or invest in better winter gear if that helps to get you outside. Then just do it! Don't overthink it or listen to your doubts.Step outside of your comfort zone, you’ll feel so good after! Cold Season Immune Boosting Tips: Tip 3 Sleep & rest more. The body heals and regenerates during rest & sleep. Thecoldand dark seasons are more Yin, and since your body is a part of nature, it also craves more Yin during this time of year. Balance stress with rest and recharge with stillness. This was a very difficult decision because I know so many of you in the middle of treatment plans and benefiting from acupuncture. I also know how valuable acupuncture and Chinese medicine is for boosting immunity. However, in my TCM training we were drilled about infectious diseases, so Im very aware about the current risks - and I believe that if everyone cooperates together now, this virus will pass us by sooner with fewer fatalities. . While I am in good health and I... want to be on the front lines helping you all as much as possible during this time, and while I always follow best hygienic practices in my clinic, I recognize that social distancing and self-isolation remains our best defense against this virus. This is why, in the spirit of protecting the most vulnerable of our population, I am choosing to close my clinic for two weeks. All appointments that are scheduled during this time will be rescheduled as soon as possible. . The time to act is now, before there is a major outbreak, at which point it will be too late. There is no doubt that the virus is already circulating in our society much more than we know. If everyone carries on as normal and waits to see, the virus will spread to damaging proportions. . We dont need to panic or to stress, we need to respond intelligently. So that the virus will pass us by sooner than later. . If any of you require herbal formula refills or would like to do a Skype consultation with me over the next two weeks, please email [email protected] or call 613-702-5377. . . Wishing you all the very best in health and wellbeing. . . . . . . . . . #acupuncture #acupunctureottawa #myottawa #ottawa #westboror #covoid19 #coronavirus #tcm #traditionalchinesemedicine

Having studied infectious diseases in TCM school, Im very aware of the risks that this particular #coronavirus poses to our vulnerable population. As such, in the interest of public health to flatten the curve and slow its progression, through social distancing, Ive decided to close my clinical practices for two weeks. If you have an appointment with me, Alyssa will be contacting you to reschedule. If we all work together and make these short-term sacrifices, we can prevent a major spike here and it will pass us by sooner than later. Stay healthy everyone!

Your path with heart is the one that keeps you smiling. Above all, this is YOUR life. You get to decide your own destiny. What do you want your life to stand for? It doesnt really matter what kind of exercise you do, as long as you move your body and breathe deeply. Cardiovascular exercise is proven to be good, but you dont need to do it every day as long as you do it sometimes. Find some form of activity that requires you to move around and do it a couple of times a week. Qigong, tai chi, yoga, cycling, walking, tennis, swimming, skating, skiing, team sports there are so many options. Dont choose something you think you should ...do, instead find something that you enjoy because then you will make more of an effort to do it. . . . . . . . . . . . #exercise #fitness #ottawa #rideaucanalskateway #health #balance #acupuncture #tcm #winter #explore #grow #myottawa #lifestyle #ottawa #chinesemedecine #healthtips See more

Growth happens outside your comfort zone. Growth is our nature. If youre not growing, youre automatically dying Author unknown. Think about it, if a plant isnt growing, its deteriorating and wilting. Humans are like plants, we need to keep growing. Our comfort zones are the edge of what we know. Explore the unknown a little. Stretch yourself past your limits. Make breakfast as nutritious as possible. Weve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Its true. Heed this wisdom and watch your health, digestion and energy in the day increase. Based on Chinese medicine, it is in the morning that your stomach and digestive energy is the strongest. Avoid empty carbohydrates and high sugar foods (like toast, sugar cereals, pastries, muffins, etc). Look into Japanese breakfasts for some great ideas for nutrient-packed... morning meals. Never skip breakfast. The worst thing you can do is have only a coffee for breakfast. This will deplete your adrenals, dehydrate you, throw off your chemical balance and starve your cells of nutrition. Even if you have the habit of eating very little or nothing, force yourself to eat a solid nutritious meal and you will add years of health on to your life. . . . . . . . . . #healthylifestyle #traditionalchinesemedicine #breakfast #healthyeating #ottawa #westboro #myottawa #chinesemedicine #acupuncture #balance #selfcare See more

Silence your mind daily. Dozens of scientific experiments and studies have proven the beneficial effects of meditation. Not only does it lower cortisol levels, which reduces internal inflammation, but it also helps clear the mental and emotional clutter that can easily build up due to todays hectic and demanding world. Meditation is really a way to be still and silence the mind. It doesnt matter what kind of meditation you do. Take 5 minutes twice a day to just do nothing b...ut focus on breathing and allow your mind to become silent. Silencing the mind isnt only achieved through meditation. Art, yoga, tai chi, walking, bird watching, exercise and many other relaxing and rejuvenating activities can induce the silent mind. Even if you just get 30 seconds of a silent mind, this emptiness is like a trash can for the build-up of stress. For every second of mental silence you achieve, you gain 1 minute of productive, vibrant and effective healthy energy. Its a positive return on investment that is well worth your time and effort. . . . . . . . . . . . #acupuncture #ottawa #myottawa #chinesemedicine #medicinachinesa #tcm #medicine #health #meditation #balance #acupunctureworks#acupuncturepoints #integrativemedicine #acupunctureclinic #acupressure #acupunctureheals #easternmedicine #medicinanaturale #naturalmedicine #westboro See more

Get enough sleep & rest. Our internal organs and cells repair themselves and build up Qi-Energy during sleep. You should get at least an average of 7-8 hours of solid restful sleep a night. Getting adequate rest and sleep will do wonders to build your Qi-Energy. Balance stress with rest. Even if you dont get enough sleep, then make a point of resting during the day, so you can let your body rebuild the Qi. If youre always moving and going, then youre burning Qi. You need t...o rest to build it. Follow the example of Lemon, one of Alyssas new foster kittens. Blaise T. Ryan Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine 27.03.2020

Maintain good posture. Our Qi-Energy flows through what are called meridians in the body. These are channels of circulation that connect our internal organs with our limbs and head. When your slouch or maintain a bad posture, then the meridians get blocked and the Qi-Energy cant flow. This can cause all kinds of health problems like pain, allergies, digestive issues, chronic illnesses, etc. If you dont think you have a good posture, then seek professional help. Learn qigo...ng, do yoga, get acupuncture, rolfing or other therapy to help realign your body, open your meridians and build your Qi-Energy. . . . #circulation #meridians #posture #acupuncture #health #chinesemedecine #westboro #qi #qienergy #myottawa #westboro See more

Breathe steadily and deeply. Breathing is one of the ways we build Qi-Energy. Keep conscious of your breath throughout the day, while at work, shopping, driving, walking or doing anything. Many people with allergies tend to breathe shallow or hold their breath too much. Practicing breathing exercises, yoga, qigong, meditation or tai chi are all good ways to get more in touch with your breathing. . . .... . . #acupuncture #chinesemedicine #health #balance #acupunctureworks #ottawa #myottawa #westboro #qi #qienergy #allergies #breathing #energy #balance #westboro

Great podcast by TCM/health genius, Michael Smith breaks down the science, myths and benefits of cold showers, fasting, and breath work. Ive personally been doing daily cold showers for over a year and a half. Usually twice a day, I have to admit that I almost never want to do it, but after I always feel amazing! Ive experienced the benefits of better sleep, more stamina, less physical stiffness and increased mental clarity. Theres a real neurological science that expl...ains how these ancient, but recently rediscovered practices (thanks primarily to Wim Hof) affect our health so positively. . If you listen to one health podcast this summer, listen to this one. . Then, go try a 30 second cold shower at the end of your normal hot shower. I usually start by putting my arms and legs under the cold water, then work to my core and head. Stay cool! See more

Best way to start your day: the Remineralization Drink! Dissolve a quarter teaspoon of pure sea or Himalayan salt and the juice of half a lemon into pure drinking water. Drink first thing when you wake up on an empty stomach. Its rehydrating capabilities are especially important in the morning after the bodys natural fasting and detoxifying process. Throughout the night toxins are being cleared and pushed into the lymphatic system. If left stagnant, these toxins will accumul...ate in different parts of your body or be released through the skin, thus resulting in acne / inflammation / skin irritation. Being alkaline and metabolism-stimulating, this drink finalizes the detoxification process. I have recommended it with great results to a number of patients, especially those who find it difficult to establish a healthy breakfast routine. Excellent for growing teenagers and children as well (although the amount of lemon juice should be reduced if the child does not like sour). I was first introduced to this technique in @aubreymarcus book Own the Day, Own Your Life and have since personally experienced the innumerable benefits it offers the digestive system. So refreshing! Jade is considered among the luckiest and most Feng Shui-positive plants because of its plump and rounded succulent leaves. This one was unfortunately exposed to subzero temperatures on our windowsill overnight about a month ago. Notice how the stems froze and effectively cut off exposure to the affected roots. New roots then appeared so the plant can anchor itself and begin again. A beautiful visual reminder of life after trauma and self-preservation.
