Stay off the ice! Restez hors de la glace! No ice is without risk La glace pose toujours un risque... Measure clear hard ice in several places Mesurer la glace dure claire à plusieurs endroits Even thick ice may be weak Même la glace épaisse peut être faible The ice on our waterways is not thick enough to venture onto L'épaisseur de la glace sur les cours d’eau n’est pas sécuritaire pour s’y aventurer Ice thickness/quality can change rapidly and its appearance is misleading La qualité de glace peut changer rapidement et son apparence est trompeuse In case of emergency, call 911 right away En cas d’urgence, appelez le 911 sans délais #IceSafety #ColdWaterShock #NoIceIsSafeIce #EauFroide #SécuritéSurLaGlace

Did you know approximately 35% of drownings in Canada occur from October to April when most people have no intention of going into the water? If you enter t...he water unexpectedly: Take a minute. The initial effects of cold-water pass in less than a minute so don't try to swim straight away. Relax and float on your back to catch your breath. Try to get hold of something that will help you float. Keep calm then call for help or swim for safety if you're able. #WaterWednesday #DrowningPrevention #WaterSafety

Heading out for a late-season boating adventure or fishing trip? Be prepared in case of accidental immersion cold water could literally take your breath away.... Be sure to: 1. Always wear your PFD when out on the water. 2. Dress for the water temperature, not the air temperature, with layers of clothing for thermal protection. 3. Have a re-boarding device on your boat to allow for self-rescue. 4. Know the signs of hypothermia. Be prepared to seek shelter to minimize the risk of hypothermia becoming severe. November is here, but that doesn’t mean your boating adventures are done for the year! There’s still time to enjoy the water even as temperatures start to cool.... Keep these tips in mind: 1. Dress for the water temperature: wear thermal protection (and a PFD, of course), and keep spare clothing on board. 2. Keep checking the weather: the mixing of warm and cold air can spawn late summer high winds and waves. 3. Watch for hazards: water levels may have fluctuated from normal summer levels, meaning previously visible hazards could now be submerged. By exercising caution and being self-sufficient on the water, you can enjoy boating well into the fall. Visit csbc.ca for more tips on how to stretch the season. #lifesavingsocietyontario #thelifeguardingexperts #watersafety #drowningprevention #drowningispreventable #drowning #watersmart #boat #boats #boating #boatingseason #boatingfun #boatingdaily #boatingsafety #knowbeforeyougo #csbc #boatingtips #lifejackets #safeboating #stretchingtheseason #coldwaterawareness
