These types of external milestones can be valuable motivators, however, for a more holistic approach to health, you have to look inside and ask: How healthy am I on the inside? How healthy are my cells? . . I won't get into the biology of keeping your cells healthy, but here are 4 lifestyle habits to keep your cells happy and healthy: . . TO EXPERIENCE PEACE DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOUR LIFE IS ALWAYS BLISSFUL. IT MEANS THAT YOU ARE CAPABLE OF TAPPING INTO A BLISSFUL STATE OF MIND AMIDST THE NORMAL CHAOS OF A HECTIC LIFE. Even though life can be hectic at various points of the year, or always for many, we CAN still have moments of peace in our day. . .... For me, it can be as simple as taking a few deep conscious breaths throughout the day, doing some mindful stretches, or just closing my eyes for 5 minutes. . . It's important to prioritize a bit of self-care: a walk, some yoga, mini meditation, or a bike ride. Even as little as 10 minutes will energize you! . . Give yourself the gift of carving some time with a good book or listen to music that lifts you up and makes you happy. Whatever little bit you can do to help slow the pace of your day a little bit. . . What does finding moments of peace in your day look like for you? From the moment that we wake up we're on a schedule and a race against time to get everything done on our to do list so that we can sit down at the end of the day and feel productive! . .... SOME DAYS YOU WILL FEEL LIKE THE OCEAN, SOME DAYS YOU WILL FEEL LIKE YOU'RE DROWNING IN IT.... What do you do when you are drowning in busyness and stress? . .... Through my learning journey, I found that when I am feeling overwhelmed and drowning in tasks, I've created this experience for myself and I can choose a different way to experience it. . . If I have a lot of things on the list I can either create theexperience of being swamped and overwhelmed and feel that in my body and mindOR I can create a completely different experience. I’m not a victim of my circumstances. . . This might sound weird...why would I create an experience for myself to beoverwhelmed and stressed?? . . Before we can shift from overwhelmed to more calm we need to work on our mindfulness muscles. Drop your attention into your body for a few minutes and notice how you are feeling. Notice what areas of your body are holding tension, just notice it with compassion and without judgement. Just breathe and give this process some space. Give yourself compassion and take care of yourself. If you can do this for 5-10 minutes it would make a big difference. If you can do it for 20-30 minutes you will feel well rested.Your mind may wander and that's ok, just watch without judgement. . . Now make a list of EVERYTHING you have to do. Cross off the ones you don’t need to do, mark other ones to be done later, send others to be done by other people. Of the remaining tasks, mark the top 3. Put those 3 on a new list to focus on. The rest you will try to get through when those top 3 are done. . . You now have 3 top things to focus on. You can choose how you want to experience your day. If you are fully present, in the moment, you can experience the moment as peaceful, calm, open and joyful. . . Having too many tasks and things to do is all too common. How we choose to experience it is up to us. We can breathe, break things down into smaller pieces and prioritize and choose calm over overwhelm. Mindfulness matters. www.ottawahealthcoach.com

HEARTY ROOT VEGETABLE SOUP... Hello Friends! The New Year Resolution 28-Day Mind & Body Reset Cleanse is well under way and it's going great! Here is a photo of a very easy root vegetable soup I made in my favorite kitchen helper - Instant Pot!! If any of you have one then you know what I mean ... . . I didn't follow a recipe but just did what my Mom has always done...guestimate the ingredients! . . I used an onion, 2 cloves of garlic 2 carrots, 3 celery stalks, 1 sweet potato, half a can of chickpeas, 1 diced chicken breast, vegetable broth and some herbs. . . It was really good and savory and you can experiment with this and add more or less depending on your preferences. . . IF YOU TELL YOUR MIND "DON'T DO THIS", THAT IS ALL IT WILL DO... DO YOU HAVE A MONKEY MIND? Our minds are never at rest. You'll notice that most times, when we’re not occupied, there's an uninterrupted stream of thoughts flowing through our minds. Sometimes, we deliberately think about things, but often, we are simply unaware of the thoughts in our heads.... . . According to research, an average human being is believed to have over 6000 thoughts a day! It doesn't matter whether or not we are aware of our thoughts, they form an incessant chatter in our heads. All this noise, or inner monologue, creates distractions and prevents us from concentrating on the task at hand. Just like a monkey that swings from one tree to another, our mind too jumps from one thought to another, either ruminating over the past or worrying about the future. . . When we are able to silence the mental noise, we notice that our mind becomes still. It becomes calm and peaceful. Our brain begins to function better, and we become more creative, efficient and alert. We begin to feel as if we are in control. And instead of reacting to stressful life situations with fear and anxiety, we begin to face difficulties with a positive attitude. . . But how do we silence the mental chatter? Welcome to Ottawa Health Coach facebook page! I just wanted to introduce myself again for those of you who are new to my page. My name is Arti Joshi and I'm a Certified Health & Life Coach here in Ottawa, Ontario. I have a background in holistic wellness and Psychology from McGill University. Taking care of the whole body - mind, body, spirit - has been my passion and wellness journey for a well over a decade. ... As a society, we’re more unhealthy, stressed, exhausted, overweight, overworked, and burnt out than we’ve ever been before. Lifestyle diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity are at an all-time high, and the current healthcare model’s answer is to spend money, time, and energy treating disease reactively instead of investing in preventive medicine. In the US, 86% of all healthcare dollars ($2.9 trillion and growing) are spent treating chronic diseases and in Canada that number is $190 billion annually and growing. As a Health and Life Coach, instead of treating symptoms, I focus on disease prevention, total body health, and getting to the root cause of illness. I help people improve their health and happiness, change their habits, and empower themselves to be advocates for their own well-being. Did you know that some scientists believe up to 95% of human behavior is a result of habit? That’s why so many of us struggle to make lifestyle changes that stick, even when we know we need to and our resolutions are strong. We’re creatures of habitwhich is why it can be so difficult to make drastic changes with no support or accountability to help us follow through.
